💔 THEY ARE NOT TRASH.
Last night, a woman driving on a highway south of Lethbridge nearly hit a box sitting on the highway.

She stopped to move it.

When she opened it, there was a young cat inside. Estimated to be under a year old.

Someone put him in that box, closed it, left him on a highway.

LEFT HIM THERE TO BE KILLED BY A PASSING CAR!!! No way out!!

How can anyone look at a living, breathing animal and decide that its life is disposable?

This is the reality of the cat crisis in Alberta.

Cats are being dumped, abandoned, neglected and treated like garbage. Left on farms, in the country, outside homes and now—in boxes on highways.

ENOUGH!!!!

Cats feel fear, pain, hunger, thirst, cold and loneliness. They are not disposable because they became inconvenient.
We are incredibly grateful to the woman who stopped. She didn't just move a box—she saved a life. She even took him home despite being allergic to cats because she couldn't leave him there.

If you choose to have a cat, you choose the responsibility that comes with that life.
If you can no longer care for your cat, find a safe solution. Contact rescues, shelters or your veterinarian. If euthanasia is truly necessary, have it done humanely.

But DO NOT abandon an animal and expect someone else to deal with it. Definitely do not be so cruel as to have them be killed in such a horrible way.

Rescues are overwhelmed. We cannot continue cleaning up the consequences of irresponsible ownership.
You chose to have the cat. Not us.
Please help change this crisis:

🐾 SUPPORT LOCAL RESCUES
🐾 ASK ABOUT SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAMS
🐾 CONSIDER ADOPTING ADULT OR BARN CATS
Every adoption creates space to save another life.
Every spay and neuter prevents another unwanted litter.
And every responsible owner can help prevent another tragedy like this.
💔 That little cat didn't ask to be born. He didn't ask to be abandoned. He deserved someone to care.
Thankfully, someone stopped.
But how many aren't found?
Cats are not trash. They are lives. And they deserve better.
