This year was marked by major life changes, embraced discomfort and joyous mayhem.
In Spanish, there is a saying: Uno propone y Dios dispone. It reminds us that no matter how carefully we plan, the outcome ultimately rests in the hands of a greater power.
We have witnessed this firsthand as things have not always gone as planned or hoped. Yet in the grief we have faced and the difficulties that health issues created, we managed to walk into the various storms and come out on the other side.
Turning to my ancestors for strength and wisdom has been the norm. Looking upward to my Heavenly Father’s love and to the grace shown me by my Saviour Jesus Christ brought tender and timely mercies.
We have made new friends and have been blessed by long time friends. Thoughtful women in my life have shown kindness for my children, have kept them in their prayers, assisted me when I needed and kept in touch through the distances that separate us.
Thank you for thinking of our family and being part of our lives. The village that helps Aaron and I raise these precious children is a powerful source of strength and comfort.
At the beginning of 2025, I held three simple goals close to my heart. I remain deeply humbled to have reached hopes that were both simple and long-awaited.
Sending love to those who have lost a precious family member this year. Sending love to those who have remained steadfast through health challenges. And continued blessings to all who have struggled yet keep pressing forward.
Wishing you a joyous Christmas and an enlightening New Year!

More than other years, it feels like this year went in hyper drive. We mostly stayed nearby with a short trip to Penticton for most of us, a sister’s trip for Yancy and I, and a visit to Victoria for Aaron. We are lucky (blessed) when we get short visits from Gigi. She has made time for her family at most of the important milestones and family tradition days.
We experienced a great loss in June with the passing of my grandmother, Mama Rosa. She was a force of nature and she was made of steel it seemed. I hold her example close to my heart and cherish the memories we made with her a few summers ago. We still feel close to her whenever we see a moth or a butterfly hanging around. It reminds me of something she shared with me when I visited with her, my great-grandmother and Salvadorean family, the summer before Aaron came into my life.
The children and I really enjoyed our summer and doing the markets and fun activities that come with hot weather. After the water restrictions lifted, the fun really got started. The children’s garden beds were planted with lovingly selected seeds from one of my childhood friends. We have been blessed to enjoy the company of adoptive grandparents in our community. A tender opportunity for our kids whose grandparents are so far from them.
Late in the summer I was invited to apply for a role I missed out on in at the beginning of summer. It was a timely blessing which has challenged me and given me opportunities to learn and grow. My new job is about 30 minutes from our current home. I often use the time in the car on the way home from work to chat with my mom in messenger. So grateful for her guidance and example. I have relied on her wisdom so much.
This year, the children launched 3 businesses and made some cool cash which they promptly spent. They are now saving up for a dog but can only get one if they can go 1 week without needing promptings and reminders to complete their individual and collective tasks. They have been interacting with different dog breeds to see if the boys’ allergies have been outgrown. We will see if they can make it a week of being responsible sometime in 2024.
Healthwise, we have been protected. Although still a journey to healing with some members of our family, we are hoping that for Aven, the surgery coming up in February is the last for a long time if not for always. We are praying that we will be guided on best practice solutions to help her with the ongoing side effects of her treatment.
Everyone has their own issues and now that I work both outside and inside my home, the juggling of my time has taken quite a learning curve. We are blessed that Aaron works here in town and can remote in at times when family medical issues arise.
Some may remember the children’s video of this song in late July. We loved the message in the song, and it basically became an anthem of what 2023 was like for our family. Things went sideways A LOT. We kept moving forward with faith. We lost a family member and relationships with others were strained, yet we were blessed in so many ways by so many. We are looking forward to making wonderful memories next year and look with hope to a bright future for all those we know and love. Thank you for being part of our lives.

Sharing our slideshow of some of the highlights for this year. Grateful to have been blessed with many joyful events and opportunities. Things were not alway...
