I was so lucky to have an Aunt Helen. She wasn't a blood relative (she was my Moms best friend since they were sixteen) but she was my favourite of all the Aunts.
My Mom and Aunt Helen went to high school at Central Tech in Toronto, where I would eventually follow in their footsteps many years later because of it's amazing art program at the time. In summers they worked on farms picking to***co, where I imagine they got up to all sorts of shenanigans.
My Mom eventually got married and had kids. Aunt Helen never married. She became a draftsman and worked on the Avro Arrow. When Diefenbaker caved to the Americans and trashed the state of the art jet it was devastating to all who worked so hard on the project. A lot of engineers left the country and my Aunt moved to New York City where she worked for forty years for the Port Authority. She worked in the world trade centre until they moved the offices across the river to Jersey.
Back in those days, (1959) New York City had rent controls and she got a tiny basement bachelor apartment in Greenwich Village. It was on Bedford St. next to an old speakeasy from the days of prohibition. It was called Chumleys and it never had a sign outside. When you stepped inside it was like going back to the 1920's. I used to sit at an old oak table that Ernest Hemingway had carved his name in. She stayed in that apartment for forty years and only paid $400 a month. Over the years her landlord tried to get get her out, but she stood firm. Around the corner, in a brick courtyard grew a cherry tree. I learned that Tennyson had written a poem about it. I was looking at a tree that Alfred Tennyson had written about! That blew my mind. I loved the sense of history of that city. I was born and raised in Toronto but I always felt more at home in the big apple.
I don't remember what year it was when Aunt Helen bought the stained glass window from a Catholic church in Brooklyn that was torn down for a parking lot. She thought, in her retirement she might move back to Canada, where she would live happily with the window in a converted barn.
This is the story of how a stained glass window from Brooklyn NY found a new home in little old Mono Centre Ontario.

Calling it a day🌙Sweet dreams!

Morning sunrise from Elliston, Newfoundland & Labrador
You can plan the location for the next shot, BUT having one unexpecting person standing tall at the end of the trail...priceless!
Timing is always everything.
