Perfect Plant, Perfect Place 003: East-Facing Window 🌿

East-facing windows provide gentle morning sunshine followed by bright, indirect light—an ideal combination for many houseplants!

Three beautiful choices for this spot are:

🌿 Hoya Sunrise — morning sun can bring out its gorgeous red colouring. Mine has been looking a little greener lately, which is a good sign that it’s time to relocate it somewhere brighter!

🌿 Scindapsus Platinum — bright light helps maintain its striking silver foliage.

🌿 Monstera Thai Constellation — plenty of light supports healthy growth and beautiful variegation.

Place them close to the window so they can soak up that soft morning light. Just watch their leaves during the hottest summer mornings.

It just started with one… 🌿

One Hoya turned into two… then three… and somehow we ended up here. 😂

If you know, you know — there’s just something about Hoyas. The leaves, the textures, the colours, the anticipation of a new vine or bloom… they’re impossible not to collect.

And honestly, Hoyas are such a great place to start if you’re newer to houseplants too. Many varieties are pretty forgiving, prefer to dry out between waterings, and don’t need constant attention to keep looking beautiful. Give them good light, don’t love them with too much water, and they’ll usually be pretty happy. 🌿

🌿 MONDAY MAKEOVER #003 | Cozy Office Edition

This space was already functional… but it was missing that cozy, lived-in feeling that plants bring. 🤍

For this week’s Monday Makeover, I transformed this office into a warm little green escape — layering plants throughout the room to soften the space, add texture, and make it somewhere you actually want to spend time.

And I think this one proves something I’ll say over and over again:

You don’t need to completely redesign a room to change how it feels. Sometimes, you just need plants. 🌿

A trailing plant here, a statement plant there, greenery filling those empty corners… and suddenly the whole room feels calmer, warmer and more inviting.

Because if I’m going to spend hours working in here, you already know I want to be surrounded by leaves. 😂

I found this Anthurium Fingers looking ROUGH… and apparently I’ve decided this is now my personal mission. 🌿😂

Yellowing leaves.
Damaged foliage.
Old growth that definitely needed some attention.
And a plant that had clearly seen better days.

But there was still enough life in it for me to think…

“Nope. We’re not giving up on you yet.”

So I cleaned it up, checked everything over, removed what needed to go, gave it a fresh start and now we wait. 👀

And that last frame?

That’s the goal.

A big, full, healthy Anthurium Fingers with gorgeous leaves everywhere.

Will I actually get it there? I have absolutely no idea. 😂
But you better believe I’m going to try.

Consider this Day 1 of the comeback. 🌱

Follow along because I’m going to document whether this plant thrives… or humbles me completely.

Owning 300+ houseplants does NOT mean they’re all thriving. 😂🌿

In fact… some of them are barely tolerating me.

These are 3 plants I would NEVER recommend to a beginner — not because they aren’t beautiful, but because in my experience, they can be a little more demanding than they let on. 👀

🌿 Aglaonema — I know these are supposed to be easy…and yet somehow mine always seem to disagree. 😂

🌿 Calathea — absolutely gorgeous when they’re happy. Crispy, dramatic and personally offended when they’re not.

🌿 Mickey Mouse Alocasia — one of those plants that makes you feel like you have everything figured out…until suddenly you don’t. 😅

And yes, I’m fully aware of what these plants should look like.

Mine apparently didn’t get the memo. 😂

One of my favourite things about owning so many plants is realizing that even experienced plant people struggle with plants sometimes. You learn what works, move things around, change your care…and occasionally just stare at a crispy leaf wondering where it all went wrong.

So now I need to know:

🌿 PERFECT PLANT, PERFECT PLACE 002

South-Facing Window Edition ☀️🪟

Do you have a south-facing window? You’ve basically hit the houseplant lighting jackpot. ☀️🌿

Welcome back to Perfect Plant, Perfect Place, where we take the guesswork out of where to put your plants. Because sometimes the problem isn’t the plant…it’s the place.

Next up: SOUTH-FACING WINDOWS ☀️

These spaces typically receive the brightest and longest-lasting light throughout the day, including periods of direct sun. That makes them perfect for plants that appreciate plenty of light—but remember, even sun-loving houseplants may need to be gradually acclimated to strong direct rays.

Here are 3 plants I’d choose for this spot:

🌿 Ficus elastica ‘Ruby’ — Give this beauty plenty of bright light to help maintain those gorgeous pink, cream and green tones. Brighter light = stronger variegation.

🔥 Philodendron ‘Ring of Fire’ — Bright light helps encourage vibrant oranges, reds, yellows and creams in its new growth. Protect it from intense, scorching midday sun right against the glass.

💚 String of Pearls — This one wants more light than many people realize! A bright south-facing window can be an excellent spot, especially when the top of the pot receives plenty of light. Just acclimate it gradually to strong direct sun.

One important reminder:
A south-facing window doesn’t automatically mean every plant should sit directly against the glass. ☀️ Light intensity changes with the season, window coverings, trees outside and distance from the window. Watch your plant and adjust if you notice bleaching or scorching.

And remember…

The secret isn’t finding the perfect plant.
It’s finding the perfect plant for the place. 🌿

Does anyone else just… sit and stare at their plants when they’re putting out new growth? 🌿

Because I could honestly watch these new Monstera leaves all day.

The tiny curl of a new leaf.
The slow unfurl.
Waiting to see how big they will be.
Counting the new fenestrations.
Checking on them approximately 47 times a day like something has changed since this morning. 😂

And these ones feel even more special.

Monsteras are the plants that started this entire obsession for me, so seeing them happy, growing and constantly giving me something new to admire never gets old.

No agenda. No plant chores.

Sometimes I literally just sit there and stare at the new growth. 🤍🌱

Please tell me I’m not the only one who does this.

🌿 MAKEOVER MONDAY #002: The Dining Room

Same room. Same furniture. Completely different feeling. 🌱

For this week’s Makeover Monday, we’re taking on the dining room — and the biggest change? Plants. Lots of them. 🪴

The before is clean, functional and perfectly fine… but the after feels warmer, softer and so much more alive.

Adding greenery around the windows draws your eye outside. Trailing plants add height and movement. A few larger statement plants help fill those awkward empty spaces. And suddenly, a room that was simply somewhere to sit and eat feels like somewhere you actually want to spend time. 🤍

That’s one of my favourite things about decorating with plants:

🌿 They fill a space without making it feel cluttered
🌿 They soften hard lines and empty corners
🌿 They add colour without committing to a colour palette
🌿 And they make a house feel lived-in, cozy and alive

Sometimes a room doesn’t need new furniture or a huge renovation.

Sometimes it just needs plants. 🪴
