Before you water that plant again… STOP. ✋🌿

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from owning a LOT of houseplants?

More water doesn’t equal more love. 😅

If you’re noticing:

🌿 Soil staying wet for a long time
💛 Yellowing lower leaves
🪴 Soft or mushy stems
🪰 A sudden increase in fungus gnats
🍃 Leaves dropping even though the soil is still damp

…your plant may be telling you it’s getting more water than it needs.

And here’s the important part:

Don’t water on a schedule—check the plant and soil first.

Different plants, pot sizes, soil mixes, seasons and light conditions can completely change how quickly a plant uses water.

So instead of thinking:

“It’s Sunday. Time to water.”

Try:

“It’s Sunday. Time to CHECK whether they need water.” 👏

That one little mindset change can save a LOT of plants.

I didn’t mean to become a Monstera collector… and then this happened. 👀🌿

It started innocently enough with one Monstera.

Then I discovered there wasn’t just one kind of Monstera…

And that was information I probably didn’t need to know. 😂

Different leaf shapes. Different variegation. Different growth habits. And don’t even get me started on the excitement of watching those first fenestrations appear. 😍

Somehow “I already have a Monstera” has never stopped me from bringing home another one.

Because clearly a Thai Constellation and a deliciosa are completely different.

And if the leaves look different?

Different plant. Case closed. 😂🌿

At this point, I’m not buying more Monsteras…

I’m building a collection. 😉

How plant people get kidnapped… 😂

I’d like to think I have pretty good survival instincts.

But apparently all it takes is leaving a trail of houseplants and suddenly I’m like…

“Oooo, piece of candy…” 🌿
“Oooo, piece of candy…” 🪴
“OOOO… is that a Hoya?!” 👀

And just like that, I’m getting into a stranger’s car because maybe there are more plants in there. 😂

Plant obsession is a funny thing. You start with one innocent little plant…

Then suddenly you’re rearranging furniture for better light, checking new leaves multiple times a day, and physically incapable of walking past the plant section without just having a look.

And we all know how “just looking” usually ends. 😅🌿

Because I go in saying…

“I’m JUST looking.”

And somehow five minutes later I’m standing there holding another plant, convincing myself that this one is different. 😂

But then you look at those leaves… the variegation… the new growth…

HOW am I supposed to just walk away?!

At this point, I’ve learned there are two types of trips to the garden centre:

🌿 The ones where I buy a plant.
🌿 And the ones where I regret not buying the plant.

There is no third option. 😂

So yes… these are a few of the plants that have absolutely destroyed my ability to say “I don’t need another one.”

🌱 If you’re thinking about giving up on that tiny cutting… don’t.

Because this is what patience can look like. 💚

It starts with one little cutting sitting in water, and for what feels like forever… nothing happens.

Then come the roots.
Then the first new leaf.
Then another.
And before you know it, that tiny cutting has turned into a plant you barely recognize. 🌿

One of the biggest things plants have taught me is that growth doesn’t always happen where we can see it.

Sometimes they’re busy building roots before they’re ready to grow leaves.

And honestly, I think there’s a little life lesson in there too. 💚

So if you’re staring at a cutting wondering if it’s ever going to do something…

Give it time. Keep showing up. Trust the process.

🌱 → 🪴 → 🌿

The tiny beginning is part of the story, too.

My Philodendron Ring of Fire is so close… but this leaf has decided it’s going to test my patience. 😂🌿

Every plant parent knows the struggle.

You see a leaf that’s almost ready to unfurl, and suddenly you’re asking yourself:

🤔 Do I help it?
or
🌿 Do I let nature take its course?

Part of me wants to step in…
The other part knows patience is usually the better plant care strategy.

The older I get, the more I realize it’s the simple mornings that mean the most. 💚

A hot cup of coffee.
A room full of plants.
A couple of furry companions never too far away.

No rush.
No noise.
Just a quiet moment before the day begins.

It’s amazing how something as simple as sitting with a coffee, watching a new leaf unfurl, or having a cat curl up beside you can completely change the tone of your day.

These little moments remind me to slow down… and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
