This might be a strange thing for a bookstore owner to say, but physical books are not the BEST way to read.

They’re one way to read, but they’re not accessible or enjoyable for everyone.

Some people struggle to focus on printed words. Some have disabilities, vision issues, chronic illnesses, or brains that simply process stories differently. Some people only have time to listen while driving, cleaning, or caring for everyone else.

Audiobooks count.

Ebooks count.

Graphic novels count.

Reading slowly counts.

Reading the same comfort book repeatedly counts.

I obviously love physical books. I built an entire store around them! lol But I will never believe that the format you choose determines whether you’re a “real reader.”

The best kind of book is the one that allows you to experience the story.

How do you prefer to read? Physical, ebook, audiobook, or a mixture of all three?

I always have all three on the go!

We’re continuing our introduction to some of the incredible local authors joining us at Pages in the Province 2026!

Today, we’re meeting a group of amazing authors

Jason Ross - Contemporary poet and author of Darkness and Love, writing about resilience, healing and raw human emotion.

J.K. Rankin - Author of the gritty suspense thriller The Sanctuary, with its sequel, Inheritance, currently in the works.

Kate Somers - Historical-fiction author of The Bristol Scholar, creating real, raw and relatable characters inspired by her own experiences.

Kellee Kranendonk - Eclectic author of the Moon Trilogy and Poison Dreams, with stories spanning fantasy, horror, poetry and more.

Larry M. Holder - Writer, artist and independent comic creator behind series including Of Time and Space, Primal Chaos, Munbeibi and Dirtland Saga.

Marla Lesage - Award-winning author and illustrator of picture books and graphic novels, including We Wear Masks and AWOL.

BOOKS FOR B***S
HELP US REACH $10,000

On Saturday, October 17 from 10 AM–5 PM, Dog Eared Books is hosting Books for B***s, a one-day women’s wellness and breast cancer fundraiser in support of the Chalmers Foundation and Care & Support Centre.

Our goal is a big one:

$10,000 raised in one day.

All book revenue from Dog Eared Books that day will be donated, but we know we won’t reach that goal through book sales alone, and this is where our community comes in.

We’re looking for monetary donations, sponsorships, donated products, giveaway items, food and drink support, printing/signage help, and other contributions that can help us make the day special while putting as much money as possible toward the fundraiser.

Books for B***s is being built around comfort, self-care, wellness, community and meaningful support for people impacted by cancer. We’ll have wellness providers, community resources, local authors, self-care vendors and people with lived experience helping shape the day.

A HUGE THANK-YOU TO GO & WRITE!

Pages in the Province has grown into something far bigger than we ever imagined, and an event of this size simply wouldn’t be possible without people who genuinely believe in authors, writers and creative communities.

That is why we are so incredibly grateful to Go & Write!, the Presenting Sponsor of Pages in the Province 2026.

Owned and operated by award-winning New Brunswick authors Dr. Gerard Collins and Jane Simpson, Go & Write! creates writing retreats designed by writers, for writers. Their retreats thoughtfully combine dedicated writing time, travel, learning, friendship and the kind of creative community that can change the way someone sees themselves as a writer.
