With the ongoing uncertainties regarding Metrolinx’s plans for construction along the Simcoe corridor, the following email has been sent to Metrolinx for immediate response.

Businsses and residents in Oshawa deserve transparancy and a spot at the table for ongoing discussions.

Please feel free to share and tag community advocates, staff, and organizations to make this get the attention it deserves!

Subject: Concerns Regarding Simcoe Street Construction Impact

Dear Metrolinx Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my frustrations regarding the upcoming construction plans along the Simcoe Street corridor, which I believe require urgent attention.

First and foremost, there has been a notable lack of communication to local businesses about the planned construction. This absence of information is concerning, as it hampers our ability to prepare for the impacts on our operations.

Additionally, the closure of Simcoe Street is particularly troubling. This closure threatens to choke traffic flow into Oshawa, which is critical for the success of local businesses, especially the Oshawa Markets that draw around 10,000 customers each weekend. The potential decline in customer traffic during this period could have devastating effects on our community and local economy.

Moreover, many of us are still recovering from the disruptions caused by the 401 bridge replacement and the ongoing closures of on and off ramps. The cumulative impact of these construction projects is becoming increasingly difficult to manage.

I urge you to provide more information and support to businesses affected by these changes and to consider the long-term implications on our local economy.
