Waste Reduction Week in Canada is a year-round program, focused on the principles of circular economy, resource efficiency, and waste reduction. The program’s primary purpose is to celebrate our environmental efforts and achievements while encouraging new innovative ideas and solutions. The celebratory nature of the campaign is what motivates learning and behaviour change.

The program’s educational resources and “take action” messaging empower all Canadians to adopt more environmentally conscious choices. Waste Reduction Week in Canada further provides information and ideas to reduce waste in all facets of daily living, creating the solutions to the many environmental challenges we face including climate change, water pollution, and preservation of natural resources. Climate change is a reality that is happening now, and that we can see its impact across the world” (Haddrill, 2014)" We at 7th Sense Education believe that it's the small steps which can result in the big impact. Hence, here are the 6 things that you can do to fight climate change on an individual level.

Turn off appliances when not in use- you can lower your carbon footprint by using electricity economically for example stop using tv as background noise while you are busy surfing on the phone. Or even better switch to ecopower

Use public transport- A developed nation is one in which citizens use public transport. Various other options such as carpooling or switching to electric cars helps in a great way to cut down greenhouse gas emissions

Plastic free alternatives- Become a conscious consumer and say no to plastic. There are plenty of alternatives available for plastic free bags, straws, toothbrush, bottles.

Tree plantation- Scientists says, Planting 1 trillion trees can cancel out a decade of CO2 emissions. Do your bit by volunteering with tree plantation NGOs.

Plant based diet: Becoming a vegan or a vegetarian is favorable for climate sustainability. But if you find it is impossible for you, try reducing it like cutting down your meat consumption from 3 times a week to 1 time. Small changes do matter.

Talk about it: Help creating an awareness amongst your family, friends and followers by striking a conversation. Join a community in your area that promotes climate safety, learn from them and exchange your thoughts.

Feel free to add new ones in the comments so people are aware of these small but effective steps.

I never forget to take the reusable bags while I go grocery shopping because of the fact that, the average working life of the plastic bag is only 15 mins, but it takes 300-400 days to decompose.
