Is it OK to wash an electric bike? Yes, if you do it the right way.

In this short video, our tech shows how to clean your e-bike safely:

Take out the battery and display first
Cover any exposed connections with a cloth
Skip the pressure washer. Use a gentle rinse instead
Degrease the drivetrain before you wash the bike
Wash from the top down, rinse, then dry everything by hand
Protect it with an anti-corrosion spray if you ride in harsh weather
Put the battery and display back and do a quick function test

A few minutes of care keeps your e-bike running smoothly for years.

🔥 Every 3 days, a lithium-ion battery bursts into flames somewhere in Toronto. In 2026 alone, the city has already logged 82 of these fires, a number that's up roughly 250% since 2022.

And Toronto isn't alone:

Vancouver has recorded 20 battery fires this year. Calgary has seen 18, including three in a single 24-hour stretch. Ottawa has logged 54 lithium-ion battery fires since the start of 2024, five of them tied directly to e-bikes and in March 2026, a Centretown apartment fire that claimed three lives is still being investigated for a possible e-bike battery link. Montreal fire services are now warning that these incidents are rising there too.

E-bikes themselves aren't the problem. The battery inside them is. Specifically, batteries that were never tested to recognized safety standards like UL 2271 (battery pack safety) or UL 2849 (full e-bike electrical system safety). Cheap, uncertified cells can overheat, short-circuit, and go into thermal runaway with almost no warning, turning a bedroom, balcony, or hallway into a fire scene in seconds.

Here's how to protect yourself and the people around you: flip your battery over and look for the certification mark on the label. If you can't find a logo certified to UL standards, that battery hasn't been independently tested for safety — full stop.
