Lauzon Music was established in 1945 by Larry and Dorothy Lauzon as a family business specializing in piano reconditioning and restoration. During the 50's, the company expanded its inventory to include new pianos, guitars, amplifiers and electric organs. In 1974, Lauzon Music entered into its second generation under the direction of Ken Lauzon. The business had grown so much that musical instruments were displayed on two floors in the family owned building on Wellington Street in Ottawa's west end. Lauzon's reputation for uncompromising quality soon won it the only Steinway Piano Dealership for Eastern Ontario. Lauzon Music continues to leave it’s mark as a destination for high quality instruments and uncompromised service. From the classic names of Steinway, Martin and Gibson, to modern innovators like Taylor and Paul Reed Smith, to the finest custom offerings from Suhr and R. Taylor, we go out of our way to provide the finest crafted instruments available. In recent years we have made an effort to carve out a niche in the market by offering the best in boutique amps and effects. Beginning with Fulltone effects and Dr. Z amps in the mid 90s, and continuing to this day with a number of quality names, we offer an impressive selection of amps and pedals that you will not find anywhere else in this city, province, or even country. Service is another pillar of Lauzon Music. Our philosophy is that service does not end when you walk out the door. Our in house technicians are continuously tuning and maintaining our pianos and guitars. We benefit from having a highly trained and experienced technical staff, as well as a world class piano refinishing facility, and full service guitar shop. We invite you to come to our store where you can play and listen to the instrument of your choice in the privacy of your own individual studio.

Gibson '57 Les Paul Murphy Lab Ultra Heavy Aged, a goldtop refinished in sunburst. Plenty of goldtops were stripped and refinished as bursts once flame tops caught on, and Gibson builds that history into this one instead of hiding it.

Under the burst it's a proper '57 Unpotted Alnico III Custombuckers, CTS pots and paper-in-oil caps give you open, articulate humbucker tone that cleans up nicely off the volume k**b, The resonance of the guitar transfers through the chunky C neck, a profile that perfectly suits this build.

Featuring a solid mahogany body with a maple top, mahogany neck with a chunky C profile, Indian rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlays, 24.75" scale, ABR-1 bridge with stopbar tailpiece, Kluson tuners and aged nickel hardware.

Gibson Custom Shop Made to Measure ‘61 SG Standard in Purple Sparkle, with Murphy Lab Light Aging. We spec'd this one ourselves through Gibson’s Made to Measure program. Black pickguard, black pickup rings and black plastics throughout set off the sparkle.

Under the finish it’s a proper ‘61. The slim ‘61 neck, 6 lb 13 oz weight and open upper-fret access make it easy to play for hours, and the Custombuckers give clear, open humbucker tone with bite when you dig in.

Featuring a solid mahogany body and neck, ‘61 profile, dark rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlays, a pair of Custombucker pickups, ABR-1 bridge with stop bar tailpiece, and Kluson-style tuners.

Fender Limited Edition American Professional Classic Telecaster in Sonic Blue. Mint green pickguard, rosewood board, and the classic early-’60s custom colour look on a modern American-built Tele.

The big story here is the Fender Silent System. It’s a passive circuit, no battery, that cancels single-coil hum while leaving the Coastline ‘63 pickups sounding like Tele pickups: bright, snappy, with plenty of bite at the bridge. Add the Greasebucket tone circuit, which rolls off highs without getting muddy, and a comfortable Modern C neck, and you’ve got a Tele you can use on any stage without fighting the noise.

Featuring an alder body with a gloss Sonic Blue finish, a maple Modern C neck with a satin back, a 9.5" radius rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets, a 25.5" scale, Coastline ‘63 single-coils, a vintage-style string-through bridge with brass barrel saddles, Fender ClassicGear staggered tuners, and a Deluxe Gig Bag.

Andy Wood's signature Modern T from Suhr, in War Black. The swamp ash body is torched by hand before the satin finish goes on, so the grain shows through the black and you can feel it under your arm.

Tom Murphy at Beyond the Burst, on the first time he watched a finish check. A gig in Boulder, a blizzard on the way out, and a Goldtop left in the van overnight. He brought it into his apartment and the lacquer cracked right in front of him.

The lesson stuck: the wood never stops moving, but the lacquer does, and eventually it can't keep up. That's the checking the Murphy Lab recreates today.

We spec'd this '64 Telecaster Custom live on our podcast, in an episode where we sat down and built dream guitars on paper. The Fender Custom Shop built it for real: 3-Tone Sunburst Sparkle, NOS, tortoise binding top and bottom, and gold hardware throughout.

Instead of the usual Tele single-coils, it runs a pair of gold Lollartrons, Jason Lollar's take on the Filter'Tron. They give you a brighter, more open sound than a typical humbucker, and sit ahead of a chopped 3-saddle Tele bridge.

Featuring a two-piece alder body, roasted quartersawn maple neck in a '60s oval "C", slab ebony board with pearloid blocks, 9.5" radius, 6150 frets, a four-ply tortoise guard, and a Fender Custom Shop case. 8 lb 4 oz.
