CSDA Feature of the Week
Each year, Canada issues a Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp featuring artwork by a Canadian artist. Affixed to Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permits, these stamps play an important role in supporting wildlife conservation efforts, with a portion of the proceeds helping to protect and enhance wildlife habitats across the country.

This week's featured item comes from CSDA member IEK Philatelics (Ivan E. Killins), who is offering the 1989 Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp booklet depicting majestic Snow Geese in flight. Listed as Van Dam Revenue Catalogue FWH5, the booklet is in mint never-hinged condition and represents a beautiful blend of Canadian wildlife art and conservation history.

Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamps have become a popular collecting field, attracting both revenue stamp collectors and wildlife enthusiasts. The annual issues showcase some of Canada's finest nature-themed artwork while documenting the country's longstanding commitment to environmental stewardship.

To view and purchase this attractive booklet -- along with a wide selection of stamps, postcards and other philatelic material -- visit IEK Philatelics' CSDA online store today.

Best wishes to CSDA member Hugo Deshaye and the organizing team as the Quebec City Old Paper Show returns this weekend at the Travelodge Hotel and Convention Centre.

The annual event brings together collectors of stamps, postal history, postcards and historical documents for two days of buying, selling, exhibiting and learning. This year's show also celebrates two important milestones in Canadian history -- the 175th anniversary of the first postage stamps of the Province of Canada and the 150th anniversary of the Intercolonial Railway.

Several Canadian Stamp Dealers Association members will be in attendance, offering a wide range of philatelic and postal history material for collectors of all interests.

A highlight of the show is its innovative exhibition format, which encourages collectors to share rare and unusual items from their collections through one-page displays, making exhibiting more accessible while showcasing some remarkable treasures.

If you're in the Quebec City area this weekend, be sure to stop by and support one of Canada's most unique collecting events.

FEATURE OF THE WEEK: 1853 Stampless Canada Cover

Postal history collectors may want to take a closer look at this fascinating 1853 stampless folded letter, currently being offered by a longtime member of the Canadian Stamp Dealers Association.

Listed as Canada-cover #9958, the folded letter is dated June 11, 1853, and relates to the consignment and sale of brandy arriving aboard the Atala from Liverpool. It was mailed from Quebec to London, England, and includes postal markings documenting its transatlantic journey during the pre-stamp era.

Highlights include a Montreal, Lower Canada, double broken-circle transit marking dated June 12, 1853; a manuscript “RM Steamer” endorsement indicating carriage between Quebec and Montreal; a “1/2” rate marking; and a June 27, 1853 backstamp.

Beyond the postal markings, the letter offers a glimpse into mid-19th century commerce between British North America and England.

The item is offered at $59.95 CAD by a CSDA-member dealer who has served collectors since 1975. Canadian buyers are advised the dealer will cover GST/HST costs.

Among the highlights is the Lawrence Pinkney collection of Large Queens and extensive Canadian Bar Precancels, alongside part one of Steve Wheeler’s impressive 100-volume mint Scandinavian collection.

Canadian postal history collectors will also find strong representation in part three of Rob Leigh’s extensive collection of early Canadian postal history, with a particular emphasis on quality postmarks dating from the late 1700s through the 1920s.

Additional featured offerings include a selection of philatelic literature, important early Scottish postal history and special material from the estate of G.W. Ross, postmaster aboard the 1939 Royal Train Post Office.

One standout lot is an exceptionally rare 1902 Small 3a Orange Numeral with inverted black “I GILDI ’02-’03” overprint, perforated 12¾. Offered as a mint Never Hinged upper-left corner block of four, the multiple is described as fresh and fine overall, with catalogue values listed only for hinged singles in Scott and Facit.
