What I Learned From This Young Brilliant Professor
Today in Ottawa, my husband and I had the privilege of meeting one of his former professors from McMaster University, who was in town for a health conference.
Before this meeting, I had already heard so much about her from my husband, her brilliance, kindness, and the strong role she played during his Master’s studies in Global Health. She supervised his project work and continues to support his PhD journey at Laurentian University.
But meeting her in person was something else entirely.
What stood out most was not just her intelligence or achievements, but her presence. She is young, yet so accomplished, confident, humble, cheerful, and deeply passionate about her work. Some people don’t just succeed; they embody excellence naturally, and she is one of them.
During our conversation, she shared that she got married last year, but before that, she intentionally focused on building her academic and professional foundation first. Her perspective was mature and intentional, and it left me reflecting deeply on how success is truly built not by luck, but by discipline, focus, sacrifice, and wise decisions.
This moment was a strong lesson on the power of education. The opportunities here can transform entire family stories, but only when hard work meets opportunity.
As parents, beyond providing financially, we must also be present guiding, encouraging, and supporting our children through their educational journey.
Because a child who is supported, inspired, and nurtured can grow into someone who changes the world.
Education is still one of the greatest inheritances we can give. As a parent, what values are you intentionally passing on to your children besides financial support?
