Meet Amina from Summit Scholarship Foundation!

Based in Florida, Amina is a medical professional with a passion for building her skills and community outdoors. In 2025, she received the Mt. Baker expedition scholarship.

“I believe that when women come together in challenging environments like the mountains, we bring out the best in each other.”

For Amina, the experience was an opportunity to grow her outdoor skills while learning how to navigate challenging environments as a medical professional.

“I want to be part of a community where women can lead, inspire, and create a positive impact on one another, especially in high-stakes, high-pressure environments.”

This summer, she joined the Summit Scholarship community once again to trek Fjällräven Classic USA.

Earlier this year, The Explorers Club members traveled to Ethiopia to uncover the story behind one of the world’s oldest traded goods: myrrh.

Documentary photographer Julianne Gauron joined an international team of researchers led by members, Anjanette DeCarlo and Stephen Johnson, working alongside local communities that depend on these trees for their livelihoods to better understand how myrrh is harvested, the health and regeneration of the trees, and the biology behind them.

This expedition marked one of the first efforts to fully study myrrh trees and their resin, with the goal of bringing greater transparency and understanding to this globally consumed botanical.

We hope you and your loved ones are safe after the big storm last night. Our hearts go out to those affected.

Most of Gatineau Park belongs to the federal government and the National Capital Commission (NCC) manages the land, but it does not have the permanent legal protection provided to “real” national parks.
At this event we are petitioning to protect the rich biodiversity of Gatineau park. Gatineau Park is comprised of 361 square kilometers of wilderness, 118 rare or endangered species, and 50 lakes!
