🧵 FALL QUILTING CLASSES ARE OPEN FOR REGISTRATION! 🧵

Fall is just around the corner, and I’m excited to be offering another 8 weeks of quilting classes at the Old Oxdrift School beginning in September!

Whether you’ve never quilted before, want to try something new, or just want some dedicated time to work on your own projects, there’s a class for you.

✨ BEGINNER QUILTING — $150
Mondays beginning September 7
New to quilting? Come learn the basics! We’ll cover quilting tools, fabric selection, rotary cutting, piecing, sewing-machine skills, machine quilting and binding while working toward completing a small quilt project.

🧥 JACKET/SWEATSHIRT CLASS — $150
Tuesdays beginning September 8
Turn quilted fabric or a previously loved quilt into something you can wear! You’ll learn how to size and create your pattern, cut your pieces and construct your own one-of-a-kind jacket or sweatshirt. Check out the photos for a little inspiration!

🪡 FREE MOTION QUILTING — $200
Wednesdays beginning September 9
Learn free-motion quilting techniques while creating smaller projects such as placemats, table runners and small quilts. Fabrics, thread, batting and backing are provided.

✂️ WORK ON YOUR OWN — $110
Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday
Have a project you’ve been wanting to finish—or one you need a little help with? Bring it along and enjoy dedicated sewing time with an experienced instructor available for guidance.

Afternoon sessions: 1:00–4:00 PM
Evening sessions: 6:00–9:00 PM

🧵 Spring Quilting Classes Starting April 6, 2026! 🧵

I will be offering three different quilting classes this spring. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced quilter wanting help finishing projects, there is something for everyone!

1️⃣ Beginner Quilting Class – $150Perfect for those with little to no quilting experience. Learn the basics and gain confidence to start your quilting journey.

2️⃣ Work on Your Own Projects – $110Bring a project you have started, want to start, or need help finishing. Work at your own pace with guidance and help from the instructor when needed.

3️⃣ Doily Quilt Class – $200Create a beautiful keepsake quilt using vintage doilies, handkerchiefs, tablecloths, and lace.

Old Oxdrift School – 8 weeks

Quilting is a timeless craft that brings together creativity, tradition, and skill. Whether you are just starting your quilting journey or seeking to master advanced techniques, I am offering a variety of classes available to suit every interest and level.
Beginner Quilting Class – Monday, September 8, 2025 ($150.00)
• Introduction to Quilting
• A perfect starting point for those new to quilting. This class covers the basics: understanding quilting tools, fabric selection, rotary cutting, simple piecing, basic sewing machine skills, sandwiching the three layers, machine quilting and binding. Students will typically complete a small, simple lap quilt project.
Doiley Quilt Class – Tuesday, September 9, 2025 ($200.00)
• Art Quilting
• Push the boundaries of traditional quilting by experimenting with mixed media, embellishments, and creative design. Students will create a one-of-a-kind art quilt.
• Using doilies, vintage fabrics, embroidered masterpieces from grandma’s era, lace and vintage hankies to piece together to achieve intricate designs and quilt patterns. Learn how to use leftover fabric scraps to create vibrant and sustainable quilts. This class will encourage experimentation and personal expression.
• Quilters will design their own quilts, using the block method to piece their quilts.
Applique Class – Wednesday, September 10, 2025 ($200.00)
• Appliqué Basics on several small wall-hanging projects
• Discover the art of appliqué, where fabric shapes are sewn onto a background. This class explores both hand and machine appliqué methods, preparation techniques, and finishing.
Work on your Own Class – Tuesday and Wednesday, September 9 or 10, 2025 ($110.00)

Supply List
All classes will be provided with an experienced instructor who will use a combination of demonstration, hands-on practice, and guidance to help you learn quilting techniques in a fun and supportive atmosphere.
Beginner Class -need a sewing machine in good working order, a quarter inch quilting foot and a walking foot. You will need to purchase fabric for your quilt after the first class.
Applique Class- need a sewing machine that has the zig-zag function.
Doiley Quilt Class- will need a variety of doilies, vintage fabric scraps, laces and backing fabric. some supplies will be provided as block fillers, stabilizers and batting.
Work on Your Own Class – bring whatever you want to work on

Fall Quilting Classes with Joan 2024

Please sign-up ASAP. Classes will depend on class enrollment. These are adult classes open to all women and men. No previous sewing skills are required for the beginner class. Please call me if you have any questions about any of the classes.
1 Beginner Quilt Class- starts Monday Sept 2 - $150.00
2 Work On Your Own Class- starts Tues./Wed. Sept 3/4 – $110.00
3 Free Motion Class – Tuesday Sept 3 - $200.00
4 Fibre Art Class – Wednesday Sept 4 - $ 200.00
Classes will run from 1:00 to 4:00 or 6:00 to 9:00 in September/October 2024 at the old Oxdrift School.
What happens in the Beginner Class?
You will make a lap quilt from start to finish. You will learn about thread, needles, machine tension, how to read a quilt pattern, how to cut fabric, how to piece fabric, sandwich your quilt, quilt the quilt, add binding and put a label on your quilt. You will need to bring your own sewing machine which is in good working order and your sewing machine manual if you have one. After the first class you will need to purchase the fabric and thread for your quilt. You will need a scant ¼ inch quilter’s foot that fits your machine and a walking foot for your machine. We can talk about that at the first class.
What happens in the Work on Your Own Class?
This class is for those of you who want to finish up some projects you are working on or start something new. You will be in the company of your quilting friends and will most definitely meet new ones. You can attend this class on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
What happens in the Free Motion Class?
You will learn free motion techniques to quilt on small projects such as placemats, table runners and small quilts. You must have a sewing machine and a free motion quilting foot. All supplies will be provided including thread, fabrics, panels, batting and backing.
What happens in the Fibre Art Class?
You will learn several techniques to make and embellish art quilts. You will use these learned skills to produce an underwater work of art wall hanging. All supplies will be provided which include the use of Inktense blocks to make your background fabric, specialty fabrics and notions to produce a variety of dimensional effects. Machine stitching and hand stitching will be used in this class to achieve the necessary results.
