Hello again figure skating community. Another day and another myth to be busted that has been floating around for many years and one that doesn’t even exist outside of the overpass

When you get your skates sharpened and ask for an A1, A2, etc. there is no such thing!! This system was made up and does not exist outside of here.

What these numbers translates to is as follows for the two most commonly used ones.

A1 is a 5/8” sharpening

A2 is a 1/2” sharpening

If you were to go to the mainland and use A1 or A2 they would like at you with 10 heads. Nowhere uses this as it was made up and continued over the years.

Skate technicians, skate sharpeners do not use these made up terms but rather the 5/8”, 1/2” terms that have been around for many many years as this is what is used world wide!!

For the figure skating community on the Avalon Peninsula. Custom Edge Pro Shop is fully trained to look after your figure Skates!! We have been trained by some of the industry’s best over the years.

We want to clarify a myth that has been going around the figure skating community for many years by others. Jackson figure skates do not and has never trained skate sharpeners. We are getting many question’s on this asking if we are Jackson trained. Again there is NO such thing as Jackson trained when it comes to skate sharpening.

Our figure skate sharpener on staff has been trained by one of the industry’s best and has access to the industry’s best sharpeners and technicians if situations arise.

We have added a portion of an email that was sent to us in 2018 from Jackson’s VP Gary. What has been circulating for many years is false information that has been circulating.

How often do you change yours?⁠ 🙃
On average laces need to be replaced every 3-4 months., but this depends on how much you skate. In general, laces should be changed as soon as they lose their texture and elasticity, as this will mean they come loose more often!
