Our July newsletter is here! 🌿

It has certainly been a hot one lately, and with the downtown construction still keeping us on our toes, this month has brought its fair share of challenges. But through it all, we are choosing to stay positive and keep doing what we love most—surrounding ourselves with flowers, plants, and the wonderful people who make this community so special.

This month’s newsletter is our little way of sharing our love of flowers and nature with our community. Along with our July flower and plant highlights, we are also sharing some fun facts about this industry and where your flowers come from, little bits of insider knowledge we have picked up over the years, and introducing the newest member of our team.

Today’s Victorian Language of Flowers is Foxglove (Digitalis)

Meaning: Riddles, Secrets

Origin: Foxglove has long been associated with fairy folklore in the British Isles. Its name may have been “folkglove” originally, as fae folk - or fairies - were said to hide within its blooms. Children who wished to see the fairies and hear their riddles would peer inside these flowers. Picking a foxglove, however was thought to be bad luck,as it robbed the fairies of their homes; this router may have begun to keep children from touching these blooms, which could be deadly if consumed.

Pair with: Lavender to warn a friend of an unfaithful love, and hyacinth to as for forgiveness for divulging a secret.

Foxgloves have always felt like nature’s little fairytale. Their bell-shaped blooms look as though they were made for fairies to curl up inside, and old folklore says they did just that. They have this quite mysterious presence in the garden, standing tall as if they are guarding old secrets.

Foxgloves are a beautiful contradiction. Their delicate blooms seem almost inviting, but every part of the plant is highly toxic if ingested. It’s funny how one flower can feel so gentle and magical, at the same time hide a touch of danger beneath its beauty.

I always thought of foxglove as a flower of the woods — deep in the shade, beloved of the bumble bee and little people. They are one of our favourite flowers to design with. Their tall, graceful stems instantly add movement, height, and a touch of wild elegance to an arrangement. They have a way of making designs feel as though they were gathered from an old English garden, bringing a sense of whimsy and beauty that few flowers can match.

Just the cutest little bridal bouquet. 🤍

Full of fun textures, soft colours, and some of the most beautiful blooms early summer has to offer.

I love how seasonal flowers tell the story of a moment in time—you couldn’t make this bouquet in any other season, and I think that’s what makes it so special.

Then we took it down by the river, and somehow the sky, the water, and the flowers all felt like they belonged together. One of those little moments that reminds me why I love what I do. 🌿

Some arrangements stay with you long after they’re finished. This is one of them. 🤍

So much feeling found its way into these flowers. Every bloom, every curve, every little space between stems was chosen with intention. Sometimes an arrangement becomes more than a design—it becomes a reflection of a moment, an emotion, a part of the person creating it.
