Studio B, through someone else’s lens.

These were shot by Masselink — a Pender Island local, fresh off a film degree at SFU, and (like us) a little obsessed with doing things the analogue way. Shot on a Nikon F3, Ilford XP2 Super 35mm film. No digital, no filters — just light, grain, and patience.

Quinn grew up here, went through school on Salt Spring alongside my daughter Caitlin, and has an eye that made me see this space differently. Excited to say Quinn will be joining us this fall/winter to bring some of that creative energy into Studio B in person.

Viktor Frankl once remarked "For the meaning of life differs from man to man, from day to day and from hour to hour. What matters, therefore, is not the meaning of life in general but rather the specific meaning of a person's life at a given moment"

What does this moment offer us for cultivating meaning? How can we grow it for ourselves, and in our work and relationships with others? These are questions we'll get to explore on August 24th at Studio B Collective.

We’re looking for someone to join us at Studio B — two days a week, four-hour shifts. You’ll be the first face people see when they walk in, so this only works if you genuinely love vintage and sustainable fashion, get a kick out of talking eras and fabrics with a stranger, and actually care about this island community — not just clocking in.

While Rob’s on the island, he’s opening up sessions right on the water — no experience needed, just show up and feel it. Something shifts. People leave lighter, clearer, calmer than they’ve felt in a long time.

This is by donation — every dollar goes toward growing Studio B.

A real update from Studio B — because you deserve honesty, not just the highlight reel.

We’re open today Tuesday from 11:30am–3:30pm. Closed tomorrow Wednesday June 24th then open Thursday through Sunday. Going forward this month we’re committed to Thursday through Sunday every week, closed Wednesdays. We’re working on staffing — small island, real challenges — and we appreciate your patience more than we can say.

For our hair clients — the locals who have supported this place from the beginning — Sarah is taking appointments this summer. Weekdays are your best bet so please don’t wait. Angela is available for appointments through July and she is genuinely talented. Between the two of us we want to make sure you’re taken care of.

Running a retail store and a hair studio simultaneously on an island takes everything you’ve got some days. We’re in one of those seasons. Your kindness and patience matter more than you know.

The Open Mic Format: This is an opportunity for songwriters and musicians to present new and original material in a supportive musical environment - as well as a place for new/first time performers to gain music performance experience.
