Blackfish Beaders are taking a moment to explore the world🌎 Megan has Italian heritage on her father's side and had not been back to Italy for 15 years. We will spend time visiting familia and showing the way of life to her partner, Mark, in her dad's home territory of Pordenone, in Northern Italy. A trip to the Dolomites to explore the mountains was on the list, and we were invited to experience a local Medieval festival where I got inspired for new headbands that I want to use sweet grass and sea grass, and embellish them with pounded cedar and cedar roses🌹Exploring where you come from, regardless where it takes you in the world, nourishes your spirit and deepens your awareness of who you are ~ go and explore that world!🌎

Finally a fifth greeting card has been created! Our greeting cards are a reflection of the Tsimshian and Gitga'at territory . The "Totem Tales" is inspired by the continued significance of totem poles that serve for various purposes showcasing family lineage, legends, and rights. This most recent greeting card will be available at the B.C. Elders Gathering in Vancouver on August 25-26th 👏🏼

June has been such a soul-enriching month with a 10 day artist residency at the North Pacific Cannery, to picking salmon berries, and then learning how to harvest cedar bark. A big shout out to the Gitga'at Gathering Spirit with Chantal and Cecile for sharing their time, knowledge and presence ~ Indigenous practice and knowledge sharing is alive and thriving in the Tsimshian territory ❤️

And that's a wrap!! Wowwwww, what a crazy 10 days for self-exploration and connection to an area where my relatives live...

And that's a wrap!! Wowwwww, what a crazy 10 days for self-exploration and connection to an area where my relatives lived and worked. The Cedar and Sockeye Corset Collection is complete with its own spirit of the connection and continuation of the significance of sockeye salmon and cedar for the Gitga'at people.
A big shout out to the North Pacific Cannery and the Prince Rupert Arts Council for allowing me this incredible opportunity to reconnect, reflect, and create. And to celebrate its completion on Indigenous People's Day, well that was just a bonus💎

Good things going on for May and June!! Here is part of our Spring Collection with floral hearts as well as our seasonal strawberries and blueberries🍓🫐 In addition, we keep trying to add new collections with a recent focus on male accessories such as our devils club necklaces and devils club bracelets. Nothing better than a lovely day when working and creating with cedar . Whether I am pounding, stripping, splitting or creating, cedar is a blessed material to work with and I always cherish the ability to create with it when home in the Gitga'at territory ~ lovely days for sure❤️

Definitely feeling good this day harvesting devils club in the Gitga'at territory! Nothing like being in the forest that is awakening from a long winter, harvesting medicine, and creating from the bounty around us ~ feeling good and maybe, just a wee bit boujee 😊💎❤️
