Perth-Andover Artist Wes McLean drops Fresh Rendition of "Pumped Up Kicks" Under Folk'd Up Records

PERTH-ANDOVER, NB — Singer-songwriter Wes McLean has officially released his compelling new cover of "Pumped Up Kicks," celebrating the launch with an upcoming single release party at Grand Falls Brewing Co. The track represents a massive win for local collaboration, having been generated entirely within the tight-knit creative community of Perth-Andover, New Brunswick.

McLean, a lifelong resident of Perth-Andover, teamed up with local sound engineer Aaron Crain at Porch Swing Recording Studio to record and produce the track. The finished single was then picked up, promoted, and distributed worldwide by label owner Mitch Biggar of Perth-Andover’s own Folk'd Up Records.

From initial tracking to its global release, every element of this project reinforces the strength of the community's local music ecosystem.

"Pumped Up Kicks" is now available on all major streaming platforms. Fans can also stream the track online via F@Folk'd Up Radio, broadcasting directly out of Perth-Andover.

Difficult post that will most likely bring some hate.

This business is a registered not for profit and ran 100% by volunteers both staff and the board. All three aspects Radio / Record Label and the music store.

We pay SOCAN fees, we pay our performers for live shows at standard rates or contracted rates, we pay for performance permits when required. We pay licensing fees for cover releases. Over 1200 shows in 10 years, 5 shows have ever broken even or made a profit. We don't do what we do to make money in fact we can only carry three months of operating costs in our bank account. Any shortfalls in operating income are paid for out of our President's own pocket.

What I am seeing as of late is not cool, you as an artist can book and play at any venue you want that is your choice. In our opinion you are not doing yourself or any artists any favors by demanding a guarantee from us who abides by all the regulations including SOCAN fees for those covers you are performing and then playing other venues who are not abiding buy the rules or offering fair compensation to artists.

As we enter our new fiscal and with grant support very thin this year, we are making a decision to work with artists and venues that are like minded and abiding by the rules. The industry won't change unless the people in the industry change it. Artists need fair compensation and we need to feel like our efforts are not being derailed by offering to do so and for our volunteers they need not feel taken advantage of.
