In just under one week, our Summer reading club season continues when we meet to chat about The Last of Its Kind by Sibylle Grimbert and translated by Aleshia Jensen, a moving novel of friendship, trust, respect, and the desire to endure and survive.

🐧 In 1835, Gus, a young zoologist, is sent to Iceland by the Natural History Museum of Lille to study North Atlantic fauna. It is there that he witnesses the bloody massacre of a colony of great auks. Amidst the violence, the curious researcher pulls a single wounded bird from the water, unaware that he has recovered what will eventually be the last of its kind. Gus brings the initially suspicious animal home with him to study it. Instead of a research specimen, he discovers the beauty and majesty of his new companion, whom he names Prosp, and the pair eventually develop an endearing mutual affection.

🐧 Over the next fifteen years, Gus comes to realize that he is closely observing something inconceivable: the extinction of a species. From there, a singular preoccupation is born,and the inevitable fate of his feathered friend eclipses everything else around him. Gus’s burgeoning understanding, wonder, and obsession around the disappearance of a species and humankind’s role in its erasure mirror some of our questions today about the future of the natural world and our place within it.

In just under two weeks, our Spring reading club season concludes when we meet to chat about Seven Heavens Away by Ashraf Zaghal, a heartbreaking debut novel about a Palestinian teenager coming of age amid escalating violence in Jerusalem.

🍉 After their friend Hassan is killed by an Israeli, Aziz and Mustafa are shaken to their core, drawn into the orbit of Hassan’s father—a respected community leader known for his charity and fiery speeches-as they grapple with grief, guilt, and an uncertain future. As Aziz’s forbidden feelings for Dafna, a Jewish girl, deepen and his mother searches for a way to secure his safety, he’s forced to confront painful truths about loss, survival, and what it means to find hope amid the ruins.

The Highly Likely Festival of Music and Literature will be returning in 2027! And to prepare, we are streamlining 🖇️

Moving forward, Miracle Territory has retired, and all of our shows and events henceforth will be presented under the ‘Highly Likely presents …’ banner. The team and the spirit remain; we’ve evolved into one central operation! We now have a *dedicated* instagram account to chronicle all things Highly Likely!!

We also have a new lil logo designed my our dear friend Christopher Green ( ) and you should heap praise upon him in the comments.

In just over two weeks, our Spring reading club season rolls on when we meet to chat about Villain Hitting for Vicious Little Nobodies by Lindsay Wong, a daring, genre-bending meditation on life, death, and the murderous cost of living in between.

👻 Poor, vicious Locinda Lo is a nobody with a powerful witch for a grandmother and an undead co**se-kid-sister as her only friend. A broke MFA dropout living in Vancouver with six roommates and zero job prospects, she’s buried so deep in debt she might as well be six feet under—and her family is in danger of being buried along with her. Desperate to escape her financial woes and save her grandmother and sister, Locinda signs a contract with a nefarious company, Joyful Coffin & Co. Matchmaking Services, to be auctioned off as a co**se bride to the highest bidder. Next thing she knows, she’s being smuggled underground into the damp caves where her training coffin awaits.

👻 As Locinda prepares for a rich, dying dearly beloved to claim her as his bride-to-be in the Afterlife, her past becomes twisted with that of her grandmother, Baozhai. A feared and revered Villain Hitter, or witchy curse-monger, Baozhai’s legacy stretches from 1920s China to the Battle of Hong Kong in the 40s to New York City thereafter. Across the generational divide, one thing becomes achingly clear to them both: you can’t outrun your ghosts.

We are pleased to announce that Give a Sheet Press is once again opening its submission doors!

We are now accepting submissions for unpublished works of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry that are 2500 words or less.

We’re teaming up with the young whippersnappers at arthur_online to do something real special for National Canadian Film Day!

On the evening of April 15, 2026 (that’s next Wednesday!) we’ll be screening the now-international cult hit Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie to raise funds for OneCity Peterborough!

You probably already know, but here’s a lil bit about the Film: NTBTSTM is a 2025 Canadian comedy film directed by Matt Johnson and written by Johnson and Jay McCarrol. It is based on their 2007–2009 web series Nirvanna the Band the Show and its 2017–2018 television adaptation, Nirvanna the Band the Show. The film follows the band when their plan to book a show at the Rivoli goes horribly wrong. After that inciting incident, Matt and Jay accidentally travel back to the year 2008.

Tickets are $10 and all proceeds go to One City Peterborough
