“Weaving”, 12” x 16”, Nitram Liquid Charcoal, charcoal, soft pastel & ink on watercolour paper.
“For this piece, I wanted to explore a darker, more dreamlike theme while continuing to integrate the Nitram Liquid Charcoal that I recently added to my toolkit. A raven and a spectral hand emerged from this process, united within a chaos of textured forms and scarlet embroidery.
To achieve this, I used Nitram Liquid Charcoal and a silicone spatula to cover the paper quickly, and incorporating water allowed me to play with transparencies. When Nitram Liquid Charcoal is used straight from the tube, it creates a beautiful impasto effect, adding rich relief as it dries. I intentionally worked with the drips in this manner, as the heavy texture brings a completely new dimension to a charcoal piece.
Once dry, the surface retains a perfect tooth for layering dry mediums like charcoal or soft pastels, right on top!”
