We’re closing!
After 19 incredible years of anchoring the corner of Main and Elizabeth Street Gilbert & Lighthall Marketplace is closing.
It has been a joy to be the caretaker of Gilbert & Lighthall Marketplace – a beautiful retail space with a rich and varied history on Main Street since 1892. Now it is time for it to begin its next chapter and I am thrilled to be handing the space over to two young, entrepreneurial women, with their own exciting dreams to anchor the next decade, or more, of history on Main Street.
With Gilbert & Lighthall Marketplace, I have had the opportunity to forge meaningful friendships, work with talented people, and meet so many interesting and loyal customers. It has been a privilege to share in their stories, to help them find the perfect treasure to take home or gift – and then to have them come back and let us know how much they love their treasured item or how much it meant to the recipient.
This has been a very difficult decision, as Gilbert & Lighthall Marketplace has given me so much, especially the wonderful people who have supported me over the years, and without whom none of this would have been possible. I thank my wonderful staff, the community and all my customers. And finally, I thank all the artisans, designers, reps and suppliers who have helped me source beautiful and unique things to sell.
I am so very grateful that I chose to move to Prince Edward County 22 years ago and that I have been able to build my businesses in a vibrant community of independent business people. Even though Gilbert & Lighthall Marketplace is closing, I will continue to be part of Picton’s vital Main Street community with Magpie Clothing Essentials.
Stand by for our closing sale announcement, which will be coming soon. And in the meantime, please continue to support small independent retail businesses.
