Feeling very grateful to have had the opportunity to share my design alongside three amazing Salish artists - Atheana Picha, Vanessa Serroul and Joan Williams - at the Fort Langley National Historic Site. Being blanketed in front of community members and loved ones and being able to share the meaning behind my design, the connection of q̓ic̓əy̓ people to the waterways of this land we have been stewards of for generations, has filled my heart with love and joy. Go check out these beautiful banners all around the parking lot next time you visit!

Some recent pieces I completed for Alex Hope Elementary, along with pictures from the unveiling and honouring ceremony they hosted for me. Very grateful for this opportunity to create my first large-scale painted pieces and to have these paintings hang in these hallways for years to come 🤲🏼

χew̓s tə šxʷhəliʔ (new life)

Created this piece for .art ‘s KINSHIP Artist Showcase at April 25th from 7-11pm. Come visit it (and a few others from me) in person and witness a collection of visual & performance art from 30+ multidisciplinary creators, who will be sharing their works surrounding the theme of “kinship: connecting with the land and to each other.” DM me for a link if you’re interested in getting tickets!

The Invitation:

Join us for a one-night exploration of visual art, written art and performance art by over thirty artists from across Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
Hosted by Reclaiming Art Collective and in collaboration with Oldhand Coffee and The Imagination Forge and Oblique Media, our artists will invite you to reflect on the relationships all around us. From poets to painters, rappers and dancers, this artist cohort will take you on a journey, connecting to Land, lineage and each other.

Kinship is an exploration of the relationships that hold us - our ties to each other, to the land, to the waters, and to the unseen currents that move through all living things. Kinship invites us to notice the ways we are shaped by the places we come from, the communities that support us, and the responsibilities we carry in return. Kinship calls us to remember that we are part of an ongoing exchange in every ecosystem in both the natural and human world.

Through Kinship, we gather to celebrate relationship as living practice, rooted in belonging, stewardship, and art.

The Program:

Doors & Gallery Open: 7:00pm
Performances Begin: 7:30pm
Performances End: 10:30pm
Gallery Closes: 11pm

About Reclaiming Art:

We are a collective of artists and creatives located in the Greater Vancouver and Fraser Valley Region of Southern BC. We reclaim art to explore all the parts of ourselves. Reclaiming art as our voices. Reclaiming art as a protest. Reclaiming art as healing. Reclaiming art as part of what it means to be a person in the world today.

On November 8th, we honour all First Nations, Métis and Inuit veterans whose numerous contributions were integral to the Royal Canadian Armed Forces. We wear beaded poppies to remember those who lost their lives fighting for a country that did not recognize them as their own. We raise awareness to the many injustices faced by Indigenous veterans during their service and upon their return home. Lest we forget 🕊️
