POTW: Crocosmia ‘Lucifer' ❤️‍🔥

A great perennial that brings a little drama to the garden... Meet Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’!

With tall, arching stems covered in brilliant red, funnel-shaped flowers, this late summer bloomer is hard to miss 🌺

~ Crocosmia comes from the Greek words for “saffron” and “smell”, referring to the saffron-like fragrance released by the dried flowers

~ It grows from corms, which are underground storage structures similar to bulbs. It multiplies by producing new corms, so established plants can form impressive clumps

~ Crocosmias are native to southern and eastern Africa

Long before the garden center is filled with colourful blooms, our team is hard at work seeding, transplanting, watering, growing, and caring for thousands of plants in the greenhouses. As spring turns to summer, that same dedication carries into the garden center, where we help you choose the perfect plants, answer your gardening questions, and load up everything from annuals to fruit trees.

Every bloom, every basket, every fresh bouquet, and every successful garden starts with people who genuinely care about what they do.

As some of our seasonal staff finish up for the year, we want to say thank you! And to our customers! Thank you for supporting not just a local garden center, but the amazing team behind it.

🌸 POTW: Echinacea (Coneflower) 🌸

Our Echinacea blooms are just starting to pop!

~ Blooming from mid-summer into fall, they will keep your garden bursting with colour and provide some late-season food for pollinators 🐝

~ The name Echinacea comes from the Greek word echinos, meaning "hedgehog" or "sea urchin," referring to the plant's distinctive spiky center cone 🦔

~ Those raised cones are made up of hundreds of tiny individual flowers, each producing nectar and seeds - As the blooms fade, the seed heads become a food source for goldfinches and other songbirds 🐦

~ Many Echinacea varieties are native to the North American prairies, where they've evolved to thrive in sunny, open landscapes ☀️

We have a variety of echinacea species available in our perennial yard - stop by and see what's blooming! 🌸
