Today’s feature is Studiostone Creative — DIY soapstone carving kits made in Vancouver, BC. Founder Oliver Harwood trained in Italian marble studios before finding a way to make the ancient craft of stone carving accessible to absolutely anyone, no experience or fancy tools required. Soft soapstone, all-ages-safe tools, and a finished piece in a couple of hours — it’s sculpture for the rest of us.

For July, we’re celebrating the makers who make this place so special & today’s feature is a double feature: Beam Paints and The Stoneground Paint Co Not only are these handmade watercolours amazing and wonderful and every superlative you can think of, but the people behind them match exactly.
Beam Paints is the result of Anong Beam's love of pigment, paint, colour, and innovation, taught to her by her parents Carl & Ann Beam. Lightfast pigments, gum arabic, and Manitoulin maple sap blend together to create a handmade saturated colour that is a joy to paint with. True story: Beam Paints were the first purchase we made for the store AND was also the first sale we ever made. We LOVE Beam ❤️
Last year, we had the great fortune to meet Eric Rowe at a trade show and sample Stoneground watercolours and absolutely fell in love. Eric founded the company with his daughter Jenny who uses her degrees in Art History and History to conduct in-depth research into pigments and botanical subjects, that in turn inspire Stoneground's vibrant offerings.
We just received a restock on both these great Canadian brands, including Beam's amazing metallics and Stoneground's dot card & brush combos. Get 'em while they are on sale!!

Each month, we are proud to feature a local artist on our gallery wall. For June, we are featuring Amber Friedman:

Amber Friedman is a textile artist, who lives with her family in the qathet region of BC following a lifetime of travel and creativity, beginning with her first camera at five years old. She taught herself how to sew and dye fabric at 10 years old, using up all her mother’s white sheets to do so. Currently, Friedman is exploring direct application of Indigo and foraging for local medicinal plant colours. She is using botanical dyes exclusively for all her paintings and clothing.
The pieces featured this month are all made using cochineal exclusively. You can also find her at markets year-round at her Wild Spirit Apothecary booth
