Today June 17th, Olde Magick celebrates its 9th Anniversary.

I will be at the shop from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and as I sit here thinking about it, I find it hard to believe that nine years have passed already.

When I first opened the doors, there were plenty of people who said it wouldn't last. The naysayers have finally stopped... after 9 years! 😂

I am a Ta**us, and if there is one thing Ta**us people are known for, it's being stubborn. There have been days when I wanted to pack it all in, lock the door, and walk away. But every time those thoughts appeared, something inside reminded me that it wasn't time.

Instead, it was time to grow. Time to reinvent. Time to change. Time to learn. Time to carry on.

Olde Magick has never been just a shop. It has been a community, a gathering place, a dream, and a lesson in perseverance.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Olde Magick over the years—whether you've been here since day one or just discovered us recently. You are part of this journey.

Here's to 9 years of magick, friendship, growth, and new beginnings.

Because in the end, good times always win.

One of the most famous Baba Yaga stories begins with a girl who was never meant to survive.

Her name was Vasilisa.

After Vasilisa’s mother died, she left her daughter a small doll and a warning.

Feed it.

Listen to it.

Trust it.

Years later her father remarried and Vasilisa found herself living with a cruel stepmother and jealous stepsisters. They gave her endless work and waited for mistakes.

Then one night they extinguished every flame in the house.

No candles.

No hearth.

No warmth.

Only one solution remained.

Go into the forest.

Ask Baba Yaga for fire.

Everyone understood what that meant.

You did not go to Baba Yaga expecting kindness.

You went expecting not to return.

Vasilisa walked into the trees until she found the hut standing on chicken legs, turning slowly among skulls whose empty eyes glowed.

Baba Yaga arrived through the air in her mortar, steering with a pestle, sweeping away her tracks.

She did not welcome the girl.

She asked why she had come.

Vasilisa answered honestly.

Baba Yaga allowed her inside and gave impossible tasks. Separate grains. Clean. Cook. Work without error.

Every night Vasilisa secretly fed the doll left by her mother and the doll completed what seemed impossible.

Baba Yaga noticed.

She asked how the girl succeeded.

Vasilisa answered carefully.

With my mother’s blessing.

At those words Baba Yaga reacted immediately.

She did not want blessing in her house.

She handed Vasilisa a skull lantern burning with unnatural fire and sent her away.

Vasilisa returned home.

The fire lit the darkness.

Then the flames turned toward the stepmother and stepsisters and consumed them.

Vasilisa survived.

Not through strength.

Not through defeating the witch.

She survived through patience, respect, inherited wisdom, and understanding that some doors are crossed to return changed.

Baba Yaga never rescued her.

She revealed what was already there.
