Whether you’re headed to Rodeo PG or the Reining Show this weekend, your horse will likely be sweating more than you realize! Between hauling, warm-ups, competition, standing tied at the trailer, and spending hours in the sun, horses can lose significant amounts of electrolytes throughout the day.

The challenge? Water alone doesn’t replace those losses.

✨ Electrolytes play a key role in hydration, muscle function, nerve function, and recovery. Replacing them can help support your horse through long, hot weekends and prepare them for the next run, class, or performance.

We add up to 2 tablespoons of loose salt to our horses’ diets each day. Salt encourages water consumption and helps ensure horses have adequate sodium available, especially during periods of work, travel, and hot weather. It’s one of the simplest and most cost-effective things we’ve done to help keep our horses drinking well.

If you’re investing in fuel, entry fees, feed, and training, don’t overlook hydration. Sometimes the smallest management details can make a big difference on a long weekend.
