🏒 DID YOU KNOW? EXCESSIVE HEAT CAN DAMAGE SKATE STEEL. 🔥

Proper skate sharpening involves more than simply creating a hollow and edges

Excessive heat generated during grinding can potentially affect the steel’s hardness and integrity. Discolouration can be a warning sign of excessive heat exposure, although colour alone doesn’t confirm damage to the steel’s temper.

Discolouration can also indicate excessive heat during grinding, which can compromise the steel. Excessive grinding pressure can contribute to weak, rolled edges that wear down or fail more quickly. This can lead to more frequent sharpenings, unnecessarily reducing the lifespan of your blades.

Other things worth checking include:

🔹 Edge level and consistency
🔹 Rolled or damaged edges
🔹 Overall blade condition

These blades are a real-world example of why inspecting your steel matters. The visible discolouration was addressed, corrected and the finished edges were verified square.

At Precision Edge, we believe attention to detail matters. Your blades are your connection to the ice, and you deserve equipment that’s been properly inspected and sharpened.

Precision Edge — Quality workmanship, attention to detail and precise, level edges are what we strive for with every skate…because it matters to us, and we believe it should matter to you.

🔍 Precision Edge just got even more precise.

We now have the most accurate tool available for checking edge level and hollow depth, with measurements accurate to 0.001”.

For some skaters, a tiny difference may not matter. For others — especially those who are particular about how their blades feel — it absolutely can.

Think you were given the wrong hollow?
Think your edges might not be level?

Now, there’s no guessing.

Our H.D.I. tool gives us a quick, precise measurement so we can verify exactly what’s happening with your blades.

At Precision Edge, we want you to be able to perform your best every time you step on the ice - no matter what your skill level is.

Because you can’t perform your best when your edges aren’t right.

Precision matters. 🏒

New client came today from Alberta thats a draft pick for the cougars playing intersquad games expressing issues with his skates. We found both sets of blades were off by one to two bars. We have his blades dialed in for his next ice time and we will try to catch a game tomorrow.

Even edges matter. Even more so when roster spots are on the line, which is why consistency and accuracy are important to us. We wish the client best of luck!

It was a busy day at Precision Edge getting players prepared for their upcoming out-of-town tournaments.

Today’s work included repairing deep rock chips, repairing loose rivets, restoring a player’s blade profile after a year of regular sharpening, and a some straight forward sharpenings. The results speak for themselves — precise, even edges and one of the smoothest hollows you’ll find, helping reduce surface friction and maximize glide on the ice.

At Precision Edge, it’s the small details that make the biggest difference. Proper blade maintenance, consistent profiling, and a high-quality finish help you get the most performance and longevity from your skates.

Get the most from your blades — choose Precision Edge.
