7 Years. 7 Shifts. | Ep 3: Doing Less, Giving More
One of the things I thought a “good” business was supposed to do?
Support ALL the causes. 🌎
For years, every new subscription box supported a different charity.
I’d find an organization that connected with the theme, make a donation, and share their work with our community.
It sounded great in theory.
But behind the scenes, finding a new charity every few months, researching organizations, coordinating donations, and keeping track of everything became… a lot.
Eventually, I had to admit that I was spending more time managing the giving than actually giving.
So I made another shift.
Instead of supporting a different charity every few months, I decided to focus our giving on one organization: 10,000 Trees.
It’s a much simpler approach, but it feels more meaningful to me.
Rather than spreading our support across lots of different causes, we can build an ongoing relationship with one organization and contribute consistently over time.
And there’s something fitting about supporting trees through a stationery company, don’t you think? 🌱
This was another lesson in intentionality for me:
Doing more isn’t always doing better.
Sometimes, doing less allows you to do something more thoughtfully.
I’d love to know:
Have you ever simplified the way you give your time, money, or energy—and found that it actually made a bigger difference?
✨ This is Episode 3 of my 7 Years. 7 Shifts. mini-series, where I’m sharing the biggest pivots, lessons, and yes, a few flops that shaped Do Good Paper Co. over the past seven years.
💌 In Monday’s email, I’ll be sharing a little more about why I chose 10,000 Trees and how giving has evolved alongside the business. Subscribe through the link in our bio if you’d like to follow along.
