Celebrating the Aunties!

Today, we celebrate the aunties who help hold our families and communities together.

In Tłı̨chǫ communities, aunties are teachers, caregivers, cheerleaders, storytellers, and often the ones who make sure everyone is where they're supposed to be. They share knowledge, offer support, and aren't afraid to tell you the truth when you need to hear it.

They also have a special talent for knowing exactly what's going on... sometimes before anyone else does.

Today is a chance to recognize the care, strength, and generosity of the aunties who help raise children, support families, and keep our communities connected across generations.

Lots to see at the Community Artist Showcase in Whatì this week.

From original paintings and beadwork to handmade jewellery, sewing, traditional crafts, and other one-of-a-kind creations, Tłı̨chǫ artists are sharing their talents, stories, and creativity throughout the 22nd Tłı̨chǫ Annual Gathering and Charlie Zoe Nitsiza Handgame Tournament. Whether you're looking for a special gift, meeting local artists, or simply taking in the incredible work on display, there's something for everyone.

The showcase is open at the Johnny Nitsiza Cultural Centre through Saturday, with the outdoor market taking place on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Come by, support Tłı̨chǫ artists, and experience the creativity that makes our communities strong. We look forward to seeing you there! �

Beginning today in Whatì, NT!

Community Artist Showcase Returns to Whatì During Tłı̨chǫ Annual Gathering & Whatì Handgames

The Tłı̨chǫ Government invites community members and visitors to experience the creativity, talent and culture of Tłı̨chǫ artists at the Community Artist Showcase during the 2026 Tłı̨chǫ Annual Gathering from July 7 - 11, 2026.

The showcase will feature Tłı̨chǫ artists displaying and selling handmade artwork while sharing the stories, skills and traditions behind their work. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet local artists, support Tłı̨chǫ businesses and creators, and learn more about the art and culture of the Tłı̨chǫ Nation.

The showcase will be held at the Johnny Nitsiza Cultural Centre in Whatì.

Showcase Hours:
- Tuesday to Thursday: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Indoor)
- Saturday: 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Outdoor)

The Saturday showcase coincides with the 22nd Tłı̨chǫ Annual Gathering and the Annual Charlie Zoe Nitsiza Handgame Tournament, creating an opportunity for artists, families and visitors to come together and celebrate community.

Opening Night: Morgan Zoe Exhibit in Yellowknife

2222 Hi Rez NDN: The Cyberpunk Smoke Signals of Morgan Zoe is a new exhibition opening at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC). Over 50 original drawings that reveal Zoe's futuristic NWT will be on display.

The year is 2222. The line between man and machine has blurred. Body augmentations, genetic enhancements and cybernetic manipulations are the new normal, for those who can afford it. For Tłı̨chǫ artist Morgan Zoe, the North of tomorrow is a low-life/high-tech world. With his detailed and imaginative drawings, Morgan explores Indigenous futurism, where traditional Dene lifeways meet science fiction, and storytelling starts with "what if..."

Zoe's drawings confront the reality that Indigenous cultures are too often considered the stuff of history and left out of future narratives. He inserts his own story and asks: will traditional lifestyles still be possible in the future? How will they survive, and what will they need to adapt to this hyper-modern, cyberpunk world?

2222 Hi-Rez NDN: The Cyberpunk Smoke Signals of Morgan Zoe will be on display until December 2026 in the PWNHC's Mezzanine Art Gallery, whose mission is to display non-commercial art that represents the North in unique and innovative ways.

The artist will also be leading a drawing workshop for young artists at the Makerspace YK on June 24th from 6:00pm - 9:00pm. Visit makerspaceyk.com for more details.

Happy Indigenous Peoples Day

CELEBRATING INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY!

Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, the Tłı̨chǫ Government celebrates the Tłı̨chǫ people, our history, our language, and our enduring connection to the lands and waters that have sustained us since time immemorial.

Our ancestors travelled these lands, harvested from them, cared for them, and passed down the knowledge that continues to guide us today. That responsibility remains with us. We must continue to protect the land, water, wildlife, and way of life that define who we are as Tłı̨chǫ people.

National Indigenous Peoples Day is also a time to recognize the importance of Tłı̨chǫ Yatıì. Our language carries our stories, laws, values, and knowledge. Every conversation, every lesson, and every effort to learn and speak Tłı̨chǫ Yatıì helps ensure it remains strong for future generations.

As we celebrate today, we honour our Elders, who continue to share their wisdom, our youth, who will carry our Nation forward, and all those who work to uphold the vision of a strong, united Tłı̨chǫ Nation.

Through unity, respect for one another, and stewardship of our lands, we continue to strengthen the foundations laid by those who came before us.

Happy Father’s Day

Honouring Tłı̨chǫ Fathers, Grandfathers and Caregivers

Today we honour our Fathers, acknowledge the important role fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and all male caregivers play in the lives of our families and communities.

For generations, Tłı̨chǫ men have carried important responsibilities. They have provided for their families, shared knowledge on the land, taught respect, and helped pass down our language, culture, and way of life. Their guidance helps shape future generations and strengthens our Nation.

Fatherhood extends beyond immediate family. Many men step forward to mentor youth, support relatives, and ensure traditional knowledge and values continue to be shared. Their contributions help keep our communities strong and connected.
Today, we honour all fathers and father figures, including those who are no longer with us but whose teachings continue to guide their families and communities.

The Tłı̨chǫ Government wishes all fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and caregivers a meaningful Father's Day.
