Statement from Morbid & More
We’ve become aware of a number of statements being shared online about Morbid & More and decisions made regarding previous volunteers. We normally wouldn’t address an internal matter publicly, but some of the claims being made are serious, and people in our community have reached out to us with questions. We feel it’s important to clarify our position.
First and foremost, no decision regarding changes in our volunteer team was made because someone is a s*x worker, creates adult content, has an OnlyFans account, or associates with people who do. Morbid & More does not discriminate against s*x workers.
Morbid & More is an all-ages event. Because of that, we did ask that the market not be directly linked on profiles or pages alongside adult-content links. This was a boundary regarding how an all-ages event is represented publicly. It was not a request for anyone to stop doing s*x work, change their personal content or change who they associate with.
For our upcoming market, we made the decision to change how our volunteer team would operate and to bring in different volunteers. Volunteer positions are not permanent positions, and as organizers we have to be able to make decisions about how the event is staffed and represented from one market to the next. We appreciate the help our previous volunteers provided at our first event, and their contributions were acknowleged publicly.
We also want to address some of the claims being made about money. The roles in question were volunteer roles. Morbid & More did not enter into an agreement to provide wages, reimburse transportation or travel costs, cover tickets, compensate someone for time taken off from another job, or otherwise reimburse expenses associated with volunteering. Morbid & More has not withheld compensation that it agreed to provide.
We understand that people may feel hurt or disappointed by decisions we’ve made, and they are entitled to disagree with those decisions. What we cannot leave unaddressed are claims that Morbid & More discriminates against s*x workers, knowingly withheld agreed compensation, or acted against the values we have consistently tried to build this event around.
We are also aware of other serious statements being made about Morbid & More and its organizers. Some of those claims are things we genuinely do not recognize or understand the basis for. We are not going to speculate publicly about what someone may be referring to, nor are we going to turn private matters into a social media dispute.
We will not be naming individuals, posting screenshots or private conversations, or responding point-by-point to posts being made about us. We don’t believe that would be productive or fair to anyone involved.
If you are a vendor, attendee, sponsor, or member of the communtiy and you have heard something that concerns you, please reach out to the Morbid & More page directly. We are more than willing to answer reasonable questions about our event, our policies and the decisions we are responsible for.
Morbid & More was created to be a welcoming, inclusive, safe and all-ages space for artists, small businesses, vendors and members of our community. That remains our focus.
We also want to say how grateful we are for the support Morbid & More has received from the community. The enthusiasm around the market has meant a lot to us, and we are genuinly excited to continue growing the event, supporting local artists and small businesses, and giving our vendors a space to showcase what they create.
We are incredibly excited for our upcoming market and to share the talent, creativity, and hard work of the vendors who are participating. That is where our energy and focus will remain.
This will be our only public statement regarding this situation. This post is not intended to become a forum for an ongoing dispute. Comments sharing private correspondence, targeting individuals, or attempting to continue personal disputes may be removed.
