Have you thought about growing greens indoors during the winter? I found this great deal on an 8 pod system that currently has a $20 off coupon. It ends up being under $70!
The one I use was twice that price and has only 6 pods.

Are you in your 40's or 50's and worrying about not having enough money to retire? We've all made mistakes and it's never too late to make changes to improve your financial future. Below are some ways you can start today:
1. Keep track of your spending. Write everything down! It may take time to develop this new habit that may have the biggest impact on your budget. Being able to see where your money is going helps to make changes and get your money working for you.
2. Pay off your debt. We talk about it all the time, yet still carry unwanted debt. MAKE A PLAN! You don't need to pay it all off at once - start chipping away a bit at a time and you'll be surprised at how quickly you'll have it under control.
3. Live like you're already retired. Living beneath your current means will ensure you're able to put money away for the future. Now is NOT the time to get a huge loan for an RV or a new truck.
4. Take stock of your investments. Consult with a professional to ensure your money is invested in the right area.
5. Plan for emergencies. I can't say this enough. You will never not have unexpected expenses pop up (even when you're saving). A good rule of thumb: Have several bank accounts. One for your everyday living expenses. One for your home and insurance expenses. Another for incidental expenses which may come up, or rewards, like a vacation. And one for long term saving (vehicle?). Don't tap into those accounts for anything other than what they were originally set up for.

Homemade Soup - A forgotten favorite - delicious, nutritious, and affordable!
*Freeze bones from dinner and use them later to make broth. Add seasonings of your choice - some of my favorites are below. Saute carrots, celery, and onions, then add to your broth. Add any leftover meat and veggies, as well as cubed potatoes or pasta. Another option to give your soup that extra something special is to add in a can of diced tomatoes or sundried tomatoes before serving.
We love homemade soup - I make a large batch once a week and freeze two containers. We end up having a variety of choices for a quick, healthy meal. We also enjoy taking soup in a thermos for a hot lunch at work!

This is one of my absolute favorites that I always have on hand:

Let's talk about the cost of food! What are some people doing to keep their expenses down, and their pantry stocked?
Some suggestions are below, please add your ideas in the comments.
1. Eat at home, or pack your lunch. Make your own coffee and get into the habit of using a travel mug during the day (for hot beverages - pack your water, too)
2. Plan your meals for the week!
3. Stock up during sales - plan to purchase the things you use all the time when they are at least 30-50% off. eg: purchase a case of diced tomatoes rather than 3 cans. Stock up on 1 to 2 sale items each time you shop!
4. Don't shop more than once per week - plan ahead and stick to your list.
5. Use only ingredients you have in your pantry/fridge/freezer (this is called 'shelf cooking')- there are all kinds of websites and apps you can use to enter your ingredients and receive recipe suggestions. One app I found:

How can you make your 'stuff' pay you back? Below are 3 important considerations I use for letting go:
1. Have you used the item in the past year?
2. Does that piece of clothing fit anymore? (quit allowing it make you feel bad!)
3. Is it taking up room you need for something else?
Next,
1. Can you gift it to someone you know?
2. Would you prefer to donate it?
3. Are you going to dedicate a bit of time to sell it and recover some of the money you spent?

Selling isn't that difficult, once you get the hang of it. Remember that every $5 counts - you'll be surprised how quickly it adds up!

Eg: I sold a number of low priced items last year over a six week period, some as little as $2. I kept these funds separate and earned approximately $400 for very little work!
