If you weren't able to make it on Friday, Threads will be open today, Monday, May 11 from 12 to 5pm. Fiona, from Fair Shores Leatherwork will be there with her creative work. She takes commissions and enjoys talking about project ideas.

Summer is fast approaching. Making your own garments for events lets you create a casual cut with a fancy fabric that's suitable for cocktail or formal events. And the reverse is true too, making a formal gown in a light cotton can be a fun way to snazz up a sundress.

Threads is open till 3 today and every Friday. There are lots of things to sew with a metre of fabric. A vest, or shirtwaist typically takes 1 metre or less of fabric. The can be made out of wool for extra warmth in the winter, or linen for a light summer top. They can even be made out of upholstery fabric with a satin back for a layering item. These projects are great for practicing button holes.

Threads has fabric, notions, patterns, and yarn, including vintage items, and of course sewing circle and lessons every Friday.

Open Fridays 10 to 3 room 208 at the old River John school, and any day by appointment. Thank you for continuing to donate your unused supplies. All proceeds are donated to women's organizations.
