Sending out thoughts and prayers to Sheila's family and friends. The Whale Store / Boutique La Baleine has been an iconic part of St. Andrews for many years. Sheila will be missed by many.

Sheila Simpson, the beloved owner of The Whale Store, peacefully passed away this weekend surrounded by family and friends. The Whale Store exists today because of this incredible woman.

Sheila Simpson took ownership of Boutique la Baleine (“The Whale Store “) in 1977 and ran the store for close to 50 years. As with any business there were ups and downs, but Sheila’s determination, resilience and hard work ethic paid off and “The Boutique” as it’s affectionally known has endured for more than 4 decades and is a true institution of the town of St. Andrews.

Sheila wanted to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the loyal customers, partners, suppliers and fellow business owners for their support over the years. She especially wanted to thank all of the store’s current and former staff for going on the journey with her. She was grateful to you all and remembered the yearly staff dinners very fondly.

Sheila was passionate about highlighting local and Canadian companies in her store, especially local artists, artisans and authors. Sheila filled the shelves of the Boutique with an eclectic mix of items that reflected her own unique style.

The Boutique will continue to stay open in Sheila's memory. We hope you’ll stop in and share your stories of Sheila with us.
