An excellent Piping resource

🥳 🎉 THREE YEARS OF PIPETUNES ON YOUTUBE!

Launched Oct. 1st, 2023 — and this past year alone has brought 92 new videos, nearly 400,000 views, and almost 15,000 new subscribers into the fold. None of that happens without pipers like you tuning in, sharing tunes, and sending us your questions and progress. Thank you.

Welcome to Pipetunes — Where the World’s Pipers Learn! 🎼
https://www.youtube.com/

Whether you are an absolute beginner picking up the practice chanter for the very first time, a dedicated pipe band competitor refining an intricate MSR, or a lifelong player looking to expand your repertoire, you have found your global piping home.

Led by Gold Medallist and Clasp-Winning piper Jim McGillivray, this channel is built on a lifelong passion for traditional music and an unwavering dedication to helping pipers of all levels find their unique sound.

Jim’s mission is simple: to make world-class bagpipe instruction accessible, clear, and encouraging for students anywhere in the world. He is, to our knowledge, the only Clasp-winning Gold Medallist offering this level of solo piping instruction entirely free, with no paywalls.

Here you will find structured tutorials, comprehensive tune breakdowns, fi*****ng and embellishment guides, and technical insights designed to take your playing to the next level.

Season four is already underway — more tune breakdowns, more reed and setup deep-dives, and more piping, together.

Thank you for three incredible years. Grab your pipes, subscribe, and let’s keep this great tradition alive!

⭐ North Stratton Pipe Band recently debuted their new competitive medley at the 2026 Ogden Indoor Highland Games in Calgary, Alberta — and among the players is Jeff Pettigrew, son of Rick Pettigrew and Jacquie Dunbar.

North Stratton does not play Dunbar pipes, but we’re always proud to see the Dunbar family connection represented in excellent piping at a high level.

This is a very strong Grade 2 band making serious waves. Well worth a listen — let us know what you think.

♫ A month ago we posted about spring waking the pipes back up. Now that a few more players have had them outside again, the little things are probably starting to show themselves.

A reed that feels different. Drones that need a bit of attention. A joint that needs h**p. A set that was steady indoors but behaves differently in the open air.

That’s usually how the season begins.

With Games season getting closer, now is a good time to give your pipes a proper once-over and get everything settled before the busy months ahead.

How are your pipes feeling so far?
