SAINT JOHN • For the 15th year in a row, the It’s a Girl Thing expo will be back this spring for anyone looking for tips on everything from fitness, interior decorating, fashion, cooking, gardening and beyond.

“Everyone wants to know what’s new in the city so what I do is I go around and look for new businesses in the city that would be something of interest to the attendants,” Karen Riley, organizer for the event, said. “I wanted to have a show where a woman could go out and experience live music, go shopping and have free samples.”

From coffee samples from Java Moose, live music and a variety of clothing stores to browse through, the It’s a Girl Thing event caters to all throughout the community. The show annually takes place at the Saint John Arts Centre and will open its doors this year on Sunday, April 23, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The cost to attend the event is $6, with half of that money going toward Romero House and the other half going toward supporting the Saint John Vineyard Food Pantry and Community Outreach program.

Riley said the show has been growing annually in popularity each successive year, with vendors selling out the show months before it takes place. She said the reason it has grown in popularity each year is that they focus on adding a variety of vendors each year to give attendees a new experience every time around.

Despite being billed as a women’s event, Riley said it’s important that men feel they can come to the event too on Sunday.

“We love men to go there because it’s just before Mother’s Day, and what a great way to get a unique gift idea for your mom because there’s jewelry there,” she said.

Riley said Sunday presents the opportunity for anyone to come out and enjoy themselves, networking, while also celebrating the local business community.

“When someone leaves the It’s a Girl Thing, they always leave with a really good feeling because they’re experiencing live music, it’s a great excuse to get together with your gal pals at work, your niece or your aunt or your mother and just have a little bit of we time,” she said.
