Apogee 14 “Flash” is the result of more than 2 years of design, prototype tests and improvement, the last and the best trike wing from Apogee wing line! Apogee hangliders and trike wings are in production from 1986, more than 34 years. Their chief designer and test pilot is a very experienced and successful hangglider sportsman-pilot Vlad Mysenko. Wings are manufactured in cooperation with "Rotor" design bureau at Kamov helicopter plant.
The main idea was to create a new modern wing with not only excellent flying performances - high speed range, turbulence handling, high efficiency and gliding ratio, but the same time the wing friendly and comfortable for average skills pilots, not only experts. New sail design and materials, new airfoil distribution, new frame geometry, new optional dual inflight trim system… it is done!
The beautiful Apogee 14 “Flash” is designed for two place Light Sport, Ultralight, Experimental aircraft. The wing can be used for competitions, cross-country, flight schools, fun flying and work - crop spraying, aerial patrolling etc. Strutted wing folds back while mounted on the trike. This is a very useful feature for parking your aircraft outside or inside a hangar between flights and for trailer transport. Every wing is tested in flight and tuned at the factory, then packed for overseas delivery.
Apogee 14 “Flash” can be ordered in different variants. For example, it can be made strutted (more popular in North America) and cable braced. The best Polyant Dacron or reinforced sail laminates and Sewing Thread with life time warranty against UV degradation are used for upper surface. The trailing edge can be classical and cordless with different type of batten end furniture. Teardrop shaped Struts and Downtubes is a standard. 1 or 2 electric trim mechanisms can be added as options. The first one is used for Hangblock movement. The second one is used for in-flight crossbar tension adjustment. The result is wider speed range and easier handling at low speed (takeoff, landing). 3 different downtube length, different hangblocks, so the wing can be adapted to almost any existing trike.
Maximal takeoff weight for Apogee 14 “Flash” standard is 1060 lb (480 kg) and 1180 lb (535 kg) for the reinforced structure. We know about 3-placers and heavy duty agro crop sprayers successfully flying with reinforced “Flash” with almost 600 kg (1300 LB) MTOW (Not recommended by the wing manufacturer). The structure is made with 2024 and 7075 aviation aluminum tubes, hardly anodized. 2024-T3 material is more strong than less expensive 606-T6 used by most other trike wing manufacturers. Excellent wing for pilots decided to improve your existing trikes, as well as Amater homebuilders.
The wing was tested by positive and negative static loading. Pictures below. You can see the real load of 2834 kg (6240 lb) on a scale. The structure is not broken. Impressive result! Specs and videos: http://www.airtrikes.net/wings.shtml
