Orange Shirt Day (also recognized as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada on September 30) is an Indigenous-led annual commemoration honoring the children who survived residential schools, as well as remembering those who never returned home.

The movement was inspired by the story of Phyllis Webstad, a Northern Secwepemc author and survivor, whose shiny new orange shirt—given to her by her grandmother—was forcibly taken from her on her first day at the St. Joseph Mission Residential School in Williams Lake, BC. Today, wearing orange serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing impacts of residential schools, a call to reflect on Canada’s history, and a shared commitment to reconciliation with the belief that Every Child Matters.

Today we also celebrate Liz’s 65th birthday (this past Sunday). Come into the store 10-4 to wish her well!

FUN FACT FRIDAY!

Terry Fox was diagnosed with cancer when he was 18 years old. To raise awareness and money for cancer research he began his Marathon of Hope - which is still celebrated every September.

Terry’s legacy has raised over $850 million dollars!

Today - the school I (Jenn) work at will be participating in the Terry Fox Day celebration!

I displayed some mini crocs as I *know* some kids will be running in them today! Hehe
