In the Brain Tanning community...."Smoke 'em if you got 'em", means something very different. Well, we got 'em. Four brand new, fresh of the smoker, hand tanned with deer brain, Deer Hides. (now that a sentence you don't read every day) Extremely soft, medium golden brown smoke colour and smell. Close your eyes and picture a campfire with fresh fir branches tossed on the coals. Reindeer Furs: These hides are farm raised (for meat) Reindeer (Caribou) from Finland. They are the most beautiful, amazing soft furs you have ever seen. They are between 5 and 6 feet long. Each hide varies in patterning and all of them are dramatic.

Last Call!! Sale ends Tuesday....Frost is on it’s way tonight and serious rush harvest time has began! Sitting among our 12 foot sunflowers our gardens are exploding with squash aplenty and our pumpkin patch is flashing it’s stunning orange yellow skin reminding us of the colours soon to cover our trees. What screams fall more than that (aside from pumpkin spice lattes of course)? And we were inspired to share the first signs of fall colours with everyone with a sale on sunflower leather! Extremely soft and supple but will make a pair of moccs that will last for years. We gather our hides from local hunters who are feeding their families but don’t need the hides. Bear grease making day is always great! We spend it chewing the fat whilst cutting the fat! A good few laughs are alway had sitting and chopping around the kitchen island as Joywind juggles the many bubbling pots and the filling of the jars. When she's not doing that she's chopping away too! And the final product of the fun, long, busy bear grease day is the cherry on the top because bear grease is simply amazing and ridiculously versatile!

We just finished up a new batch of the NICEST hides ever!! These are not smoked and therefor white. (a touch off white) The hides were tanned with Deer Brain in the traditional/historical manner. Did you know that every animal (including us) has the chemicals in our brain to tan our skin? Yup, kinda odd. This is the way leather was historically tanned. It takes a monster amount of work and experience to do Brain Tanning and as such it is quite expensive. AND we sell out our hides each time we announce them. So enjoy!!

Hey Boys and Girls, Women and Men: Cream Deer is back in stock!! About 2 years ago we started working with a new tannery in eastern Quebec. They make a leather that has a different texture that our other tanneries. There leather is buttery soft but has very little stretch which is very popular with folks who make Deer Leather Moccasins. AND Cream has been VERY popular. We were out for about a month, we are now good to go!!
Hides gathering season starts this week and now we start preparing hides that will supply us for the year 2027. The cycle of the year is both exhausting and inspiring!!

Cream Deer is exactly what is says....do you like cream in your coffee? yup cream. (previously known as our Sage Cream) We really love this colour. Extremely even tone and shading. If you are looking for a leather that is similar to a brain tanned leather but with out the high price tag, this is it.
