And there was weaving! Fantastic weaving. Clasped weft, lozenges, art yarn, decorative hem stitching, shadow weaving, figuring out if houndstooth could be incorporated using supplemental white warps on a back warp and more. Also figuring out variations for sleeves, measuring, looking at boat necked top ideas and lots of fun! A rice ball lunch on Friday from was a nice Japanese way to finish off the retreat.
Always great to have and at the studio!

May is green month. My first small piece off the loom and now to continue with a longer piece. And yes, I realize I haven’t posted more about April…I’ll get to that.

Another top that I completed at Wyldflower. This is the boat neck top - but without a boat neck. I sewed up the top seam (leaving openings at the ends for the arms and then used a modified crew neck template from the Intermediate book.
Lots going on in the weaving - lozenges, a ruffle (mini-frill) and more. I used a pre-wound warp for this one.

With the end of my yellow warp, I made a summer top. As it was a bit short, I added a piece of denim to the back - which shows off the fringe. I then made a bias strip of denim for neck binding (thanks for teaching me). I made the neckline based on a template in the Intermediate book, but modified it so that this top can be worn with either as the front.

April has been a real challenge for me. The colour of the month is ā€œAll Coloursā€. Sounds easy enough. I gathered all the colours that are in my selection bowl - ROYGBIV plus black, white, grey, brown. Wound my warp with stripes of each and a little multi-colour band on the side. All good.
🌈
Then…what to weave? I started my small piece like a colour gamp - very traditional. Not super happy with it.
I looked at the stripes and was daunted. So, some clasped weft? It helped. A multi-colour variegated yarn? Nope. Some thick yarn that helped hide the stripes? Meh. So I just didn’t weave for a while.
Do I do a new warp? Do I pick a different colour?
Hmmmm…
Today I sat at the loom, wondering.
Well it so happened that I was visiting Lorrie’s to see the new lambs the other day and she wanted a quick refresher on the comb reed.
Then, I thought of the amazing weavings that Eiji Jo does with the comb reed. Many of them have stripes of colour (not as many as mine does, but still)…an idea at least.
Yes! I think it will work. At least for now until another idea comes my way!
Anyone with other thoughts or possibilities?

March was orange month in my year-long journey through the colours šŸŠ. This month I asked Alan to collaborate with me and find some things around the island that are orange to photograph.
I made my short orange piece (posted earlier), my long orange weaving, plus a woven mƶbius scarf.
Interesting to see what Alan found around town in the colour orange. Note - there is a copper pot that I didn’t think fit the colour profile - but photographer’s choice - it stayed in šŸ™‚
