WIP WEDNESDAY

Knit, frog, repeat...

I am curious whether most knitters say "frog" or "tink". I've always been partial to "frog", myself, but is it a generational thing? A regional thing? Does anyone know? I mean, either way, it means your knitting is doomed, and you have to start all over, but I'd love to know how the words came to be.

Anyway, as you can guess, I've had to do some unravelling this week, and I'm not too happy about it. I was planning to finish my eldest son's "pictures with Santa" sweater (you know, for the cute matching family Christmas sweater pictures everyone takes), but, of course, like everything I do, there was a hitch.

I dropped a stitch and didn't notice it until the whole body and armhole shaping for the back of the sweater was done. And yes, I know I could have kept going and just flubbed my pattern, but I'm too much of a perfectionist for that. It would haunt me for all eternity if I didn't fix it. So, like a true perfectionist knitter, I frogged nearly 100 rounds of my work and basically started over. So much for a quick weekend knit to take a break from my shrug and dress patterns.

In the long run, I know this was the best call I could have made, but it does put me behind schedule by two days... considering this was supposed to be my "break from bigger projects" knit, and now it's become its own big project!

YARN STASH - DE-STASH

A month of ups and downs...

Well, it's the end of another month, and I can't say I'm pleased with my knitting progress. I had a whole child's sweater almost knitted yesterday but had to unravel it almost back to the beginning because my stitch count was off. ALWAYS DOUBLE AND THEN TRIPLE CHECK YOUR COUNT! You think I would learn this after unravelling more than one sweater over the years.

My total yarn ball count used for this month was going to be eight, but I had to unravel two balls' worth and start that section of my sweater over, so now we are down to six balls. Still not a bad count for yarn used as long as you don't take into account that the yarn balls were only 50 g each. I mean, yarn used up is still yarn used up, right!?!

Some project updates for the month...

I have seven test knits on the go... four of which will be wrapped up by the end of this week, and the patterns themselves will begin to be released in August.

My multi-coloured shrug that I've been working on for the past couple of months is 86 rows and an edging away from being completed (yes I know it looks like a blanket, but doesn't my lucky cat stitch holder look awesome!?!); my rainbow blanket is in a similar way... about another 100 rows away from being done, and my white vintage lace dress... well... that one might take an eternity to complete, but we will get there... eventually. Once these items are done, I'll wait for the perfect weather day to take pictures and then run a 3-6 month-long test knit. YES! I do expect my lace dress to take that long.

WIP WEDNESDAY

When did the internet become so boring? ...

This past week has been a busy one in the sense that I have been in the throes of test knitting an old but new pattern. My Christmas pot scrubber pattern, which was originally written in late 2018, is getting a revamp, and I couldn't be more frazzled about it. Not only was I a fresh knitting pattern designer when I first wrote the pattern, but I was also pretty fresh to knitting, only four years in, and honestly, I barely knew anything about anything. Hence why all my older patterns need a massive revamp.

My Yarnpond test knitters have been amazing and have been putting me through my paces as I've learned a few new techniques to make my pattern the best it can be, but I am definitely over making pot scrubbers.

My other pot scrubber pattern just hit test knitting yesterday, and I still need quite a few testers. If you are interested, please check out Yarnpond to apply.

After the pot scrubber slog, I decided to look for inspiration to revitalize my creativity and turned to the internet for some ideas. BIG MISTAKE! When did the internet become so vanilla? I mean, even Ravelry is a bit boring lately, but this is just too much. I used to be able to type a keyword into my search engine and be surrounded by pictures, ideas, and brilliance, and now I literally see the same five images over and over again. Whatever happened to web surfing?

Am I the only one who thinks this is a problem? I think I find more inspiration walking around my neighbourhood now than I do on the world wide web. World wide! And I am more inspired by watching an ant on the sidewalk.

I guess the old adage of "too much of a good thing can be bad" has finally been proven true. So much for becoming inspired by the world. I guess I will be sticking a little bit closer to home for a while. Luckily for me, there is an urban pond right by my house. It might be man-made, but it's still just as beautiful with all the trees and cattails. Maybe I'll go sit and knit there for a bit and figure out what I am going to do for the rest of my spring/summer collection coming out next May. I've got four pieces on the go, but I'd like at least another six more. Art is a never-ending process, that's for sure.
