KINDRED: Portraits of Mother Earth, our current exhibit in our gallery, is an intimate view of Prairie flora rendered in fabric and thread using combined techniques of freestyle machine stitching and hand embroidery.
is a juried, professional textile artist specializing in embroidery. Since 2009, she has stitched the Prairie, lectured, taught, and engaged the public in art projects for all ages. The daughter of an immigrant and a refugee, her art reflects a deep reverence for the land and plants of Treaty 6 Territory on which she lives and works.
Monika’s recent work focuses intimately on ecology and her kinship to the natural world, while her practice has expanded to include alternative photographic processes, natural materials, poetry, and sound. A recipient of SK Arts and Canada Council grants, her award winning work has been published, exhibited, commissioned, and is in private collections locally, nationally, and internationally.
