Turning the Tide Bookstore

Turning the Tide Bookstore We are Saskatoon's independent, alternative bookstore. We offer books, magazines, games, puzzles and other products focused on making the world a better place.

Established in 2003 and located at 615 Main St, Turning the Tide is Saskatoon’s alternative bookstore, offering an excellent selection of fiction, and hand-picked non-fiction books on current events, sustainable living, and generally making the world a better place. You might not guess it, but we also offer cookbooks, children’s books, graphic novels, and magazines. We are also stocking puzzles, games, cards, journals, sketchbooks, and grocery items such as fair trade olive oil, tea, chocolate and coffee. If you are a university or career college student, there is a good chance we are the off-campus bookstore your profs send you to for your texts. Book and DVD special orders are available by request. Come on down and see why the George Strombolopolous Show named us one of "Ten Beloved Bookstores from Coast to Coast."

For three decades, Don Kossick has been “making the links” on CFCR 90.5 FM. His final show as host features our own Peter Garden. They talk about community radio, community bookstores, and the devoted people who keep both going.

We’re grateful to Don for his dedication, and to CFCR for 35 years of independent, community-powered radio in Saskatoon.

Legal Unhousing: Power, Rights, and Housing Precarity is launching in Saskatoon at Amigos on Thursday, October 1st.

Legal Unhousing looks at the ways laws are used to push people out of their homes. Tenancy disputes, mortgage enforcement, municipal planning.

The book also shows people pushing back. Its contributors make the case for housing as a human right, tied to dignity and wellbeing. Co-editors Anna Lund (University of Alberta) and Sarah Buhler (University of Saskatchewan) will be there. So will Caydence Marley of Pfefferle Law and Chantelle Johnson, Executive Director of CLASSIC.

We’ll have a table of relevant reads and copies of Legal Unhousing. Browse, grab a drink, and stay for the conversation.

📆Thursday, October 1st
⏰Doors at 7:00pm. Book talk at 7:30pm.
📍Amigos Cantina Back Room
806 Dufferin Avenue, Saskatoon
