Although circles are the most classic, and probably most efficient shape for a button, I do like to ring the changes. I do like the heart shaped buttons, especially the little teeny - tiny ones. This is a small collection of some of my current heart shapes. The lighting wasn't so great (I'm learning), so the purple ones are looking a little dull. They are a very pretty mid purple colour with a hint of translucency and quite a bit of sparkle in them.

The white, red and gold ones on the lower left are varnished to give them a glossy finish. This isn't something I do often as it reduces the washability of the button. In the harsh environment of a metal drum, the varnish may eventually chip, leaving dull spots and, with some techniques, allowing parts of the pattern to wash off. In this case, the varnish is protecting the little bit of gold leaf but the pattern is permanent. I do like a few techniques that must be varnished, but I will be doing a feature post on those soon, with some ways of working around any problems.
