Southwest Musician sees local support on The Road To Memphis!

A local artist with more than 50 years of experience in music held a fundraiser this past weekend to support his journey to a coveted international competition.

Wh**ey Somers, the singer and songwriter behind The Call Of The Blues, hosted the Road To Memphis Fundraiser on Saturday night in preparation for the International Blues Challenge, coming up next month.

The Shaunavon resident shared that the event kicked off at 7:00 p.m. at the Lutheran Church in Shaunavon, featuring themed treats, a silent auction, and live music.

"We had a community fundraiser to help me raise money to go to Memphis," he said. "I won the Memphis Blues Challenge in Saskatoon at the end of September, and part of that is competing in the International Blues Challenge.

"Lots of people came out to the fundraiser, and we did really well."

The International Blues Challenge is set to take place from January 13 to 17, and anyone interested in donating to the cause can buymeacoffee.com/whiteysomersmusic or email [email protected].

"I'm really quite blown away, we have a lovely community out here in Shauanvon," said Somers. "There's been a lot of support, there's been local press, and it's been great.

"The people here are fantastic, I got some good donations, as well as some grants and money from the Saskatoon Blues Society."
