used and broken electronics. From toasters broken or not to your obsolete computer. all is carefully disassembled by our staff and students. All our fixtures, showcases, sometimes even the tools we use are often previously owned. "I decided to take a little Sunday drive on a Saturday with my 13-year-old son. I didn’t tell him the destination, just that he would enjoy it. I had Shawville in mind — it had been a while since we visited the small town and I had two places on my list: the game store and Chinese food for supper.
First stop was Renaissance Variety and it absolutely delivered. You never know what nostalgic gems you’ll find there. For someone like me who grew up in the 80’s, and my teen with more modern tastes, it was the perfect stop for both generations.
The staff really know their stuff and are eager to help with gaming questions from the past five decades. I spotted a first-generation Game Boy in near mint condition at a price I couldn’t pass up, plus they had an amazing selection of games to go with it. My son scored himself a Spider-Man game for his PS5, so we both left happy.
What really makes Renaissance stand out is the selection. Their game inventory honestly beats any big chain or online marketplace because they sell exclusively in-store instead of posting everything on eBay. That means if you want those rare nostalgic finds and hidden gems, you actually have to stop in and hunt for them yourself — which makes the experience even better.
They also carry homemade candles, books, collectibles, and all kinds of unique treasures you won’t find anywhere else. Even our dog Karma was welcomed with a liver treat and allowed to sniff around the used books from so many different households that her sniffy senses went into overdrive.
Whether you grew up with Atari, Nintendo, PlayStation, or you’re shopping for the newer generation, Renaissance Variety has something for everyone. If you’re passing through Shawville, this place is an absolute must-stop."

"Had such an amazing experience!! As a huge book lover, I was thrilled by the wide variety of books available-even one from my favorite author, Kristin Hannah! The store felt incredibly welcoming, and I couldn't help but smile seeing Cloud at the top of the entrance. Jason was super kind and helpful, which made the visit even better. Beyond books and video games, there's an amazing selection of candles and warmers that smell absolutely wonderful. 🕯️ I highly recommend checking this store out… I can't wait to come back and explore more books! 📚👀"

"We have a cottage nearby and discovered this place a few years ago, and it is now the 1st place I go every time we start coming back in the summer.

They have a fantastic collection of books, some that you can't find in stores these days from very popular to obscure author (just bought book 5 in a fave series) great collections of DVDs, and a seriously impressive collection of games from retro consoles to new games. Even though the PS4 isnt really that old, I can't find great PS4 games in major games stores anymore, and this is the one spot that has a wall of PS4 games (among many other consoles) I've been trying to find that are Top 10 out there. And the prices are extremely affordable across the board.

Above all else, Jason the owner is amazing. He has great insights when it comes to old and new book series, knows his games backwards and forwards, and it comes through with each interaction and superior service because its clear he cares about every person through the door. Its the reason I will always try and buy here rather than big box stores.

10/10 when it comes to Jason's service, awesome selection, and a great atmosphere. I could not recommend a place higher. I don't ever leave reviews, but this absolutely deserves every star. Congrats on 24 years in business!"

Great day today! Always a beautiful time here. We love the owner. All my respect goes to him. Very thoughtful, mindful, patient, easy-going, and fun to chat with! Absolutely no judgement. Renaissance Variété is a pleasant environment and well organized. This is the only shop that I know who has so much respect for retro. Super Nintendo, Sega, Nintendo 64, Gameboy, Gameboy Advanced, DS, 3DS, DSI, GameCube, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, etc. Nowadays you go to a game shop and they have no care or interest for old games or old consoles. High frame rates and incredible game graphics are fun and all, but retro is such a nostalgia. You have to appreciate those good ol' times. The look may not be the same, but those developers came a long way. You grew up in it. It was your temporary escape from reality. It was the biggest highlight of the day/week. One of the best purchases made after a hard working paycheck. It should be just as cherished. The owner opened his own shop for this purpose. You can see how passionate he is. People across Canada love him and his store, and I can see why! This won't be our last visit!
