What an absolute honour to have been asked to adjudicate for the provincial music festival in PEI this week. It’s always such a joy getting to hear young students share and show off their their skills and hard work. I heard some really outstanding performances at all levels, these students have so much to be proud of!

I’m thinking it might be time to have some of our own Riverbend students attend our music festival next year 😎🎶.

So, I’m learning a lot about living in the country. One thing I’m learning is that it’s ok to want what is “proper” and also accept what you can get. In this case, I know darn well that a piano tuner is well worth the money and it’s an extremely difficult job… but it’s nearly impossible to get someone to come out here. Plus, this is an old enough piano that it may not be worth putting the money into… which I suppose makes it the perfect project for me to tinker with at home.

So this weekend I’m adding “ramshackle piano tuning and repair” to my list of services I will likely only provide for myself 😂🎹🎶

If you are lucky enough to have a piano tuner in your life, give them a hug or a fist bump, they deserve it! 😁

Just a friendly notice for our community of musicians and clients that do visit our in-person location - if you can kindly park along the trees in the gravel in front of the studio, that would be much appreciated!

We realize that it can be tricky, especially in the winter months to get into the lot and identify where to park, so I thought I’d share here so it’s clear ☺️🚗.

If you are able to park facing in or directly away from the trees on the side of the building opposite the fire station, there should be enough room for 4+ vehicles, and please feel free to come in and let someone know if you are having trouble due to conditions in the lot (soft gravel, ice, etc) and we will do our best to assist!

It’s very important that we keep the parking lot and entry drive to the fire station clear, even when remaining in your vehicle (waiting for a lesson, for example). If a first responder needs to take even a few moments to ask someone to move a vehicle in the midst of an emergency, those are critical moments lost and keep them from being able to do their job (and we don’t have to tell you how important that job is 🙂). The fire department vehicles are also very large and need to have the entire space available to them in case of emergency, so if we can please avoid parking in their lot and driveway, you have my thanks!

The fire department has also very kindly put up signs multiple times that seem to always end up coming down. This last time it seemed pretty clear how it happened, though perhaps still an accident. Either way though, let’s try to please be respectful of their space and their efforts, they are working hard to keep their community safe!

Hi, I’m Christina — the owner of Riverbend Strings. With so many new followers and new families joining us lately, it feels like a good time to properly introduce myself.

Riverbend Strings is now in its third year, and we focus on three main areas: music lessons and programs, instrument rentals and sales, and lutherie (bow and instrument repair and restoration). Our team is growing, but much of the day-to-day still runs through me — and as much as I sometimes wish I could be three people at once, I’m still just one.

I live in the beautiful community of Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia with my four children, two dogs, and a lively mix of cats and chickens. I’m a single mom, a small business owner, and I both live with a disability and parent children who do, too! Between running a growing business and being the primary caregiver in our home, there are seasons where the demands on my time simply exceed my capacity.

I’m sharing this because I want to be honest about where things are at right now: I’m a bit behind. Some messages have taken too long to return, and I know that can be frustrating — especially when you’re trying to plan lessons, arrange rentals, or get an instrument repaired on a timeline. If you’ve been waiting on a response, I sincerely apologize.

This is a temporary season of restructuring — both personally and in the business — and I’m working hard to bring things back to the level of service you deserve. I’m deeply grateful for my team, and for the community that has supported Riverbend Strings from the beginning. This business means the world to me, and I care about every family and student who trusts us.
