Woohoo! I’m back at the ‘ole homestead. Big news of the day is that I got my two-axis solar tracker up and operational. Video is time lapsed from about a mi Ute real time.

So I had to take break from roofing, because I trimmed an edge off the wrong side of my last panel. Yes. The very last one. And they are made order with two weeks turn around. You could have heard my foul language from up in orbit.
Of Mars.
So on to the next project. Permanent solar array installation, you’re up!

Roof number two is done and dusted! It was more work than I’d hoped, but less than I’d feared.
Plenty of skills and experience gained for roof number three. Most importantly, keep it simple. The rather complicated gable trim end was unnecessary. I think it would actually have looked better without it.
Live and learn!

Been roofin’ off.
First pic is of the biffy, done and dusted, with rolled bituminous underlay and top cap, complete with fancy painted galvalume trim.
Second two pics are of my utilities shack in progress.
First shows my temporary roofing removed (tyvek and tarp) with primer glue applied. Second shows rolled underlayment layed like a boss.
Gettin’ ready to mount my standing seam galvalume panels: the Cadillac of roofing with warranty for 40 years (but should last indefinitely with proper maintenance).
Last pic shows my safety approved ladder system.
Safety third.

Got on with my permanent solar installation today. Raised a 16’ pole, down into a 6’ deep hole.
Of course, I made it more challenging than it might otherwise have been, by doing it solo.
The “lazy susan” is part of my two axis sun tracker contraption. Stay tuned to see it in action.
Mixing concrete tomorrow. Yay.

With a heavy heart, I’ve had to let The Old Lady forever sleep. She gave me yeoman service for 28 years and 540,000 km of adventure. RIP Sapphire.
But when two doors close, four doors open. Say hello to The Young Lady. Bianca to her friends.
Here’s to another three decades of awesomeness.

Channeling my inner Chimo.
I needed a route from my build site to where I will be installing my solar array (above the house and mostly out of sight). Big ditch and steep face was in my way.
Then I thought … Fascine!

The Nahanni Range Road to Tungsten NT.
Not as tough as its reputation or as the sign would lead one to believe. But 300 km one way, unsupported to a ghost town dead end.
Lovely ride akin to the first half of the Dempster. Fuel was obviously a concern, but well worth it.
