As summer approaches, numerous clients are opting for Solar Shades as their preferred window treatment option. Not only do Solar Shades significantly reduce interior home temperatures throughout the summer, but they also protect your interior from damaging UV rays by upwards of 98%!

As Northerners, we eagerly await sunshine, but allowing it to compromise your floors, rugs and interior components is not necessary. Just consider the changes in this homeowners hardwood flooring and rug, resulting from damaging UV rays. This deterioration occurred after only five years of sun exposure to the hardwood flooring and a mere six months on the rug (all despite having triple pane windows). Note, this is the very same hardwood flooring in both photos.

Check your windows!!

Window treatments are one of the most cost effective ways to stop your homes heat loss throughout the winter months.

When window coverings are completely closed however, the shades can trap warm air between the glass and window covering, resulting in moisture accumulation. This is particularly troublesome in extreme cold temperatures when the differential between outside (very cold) and inside (very warm), is significant.

In these situations, simply raise the window covering up a few inches to allow air flow between the glass and the shade. This approach works remarkably well and ensures your window casing is free from moisture buildup.
