Monarda didyma, also known as Bee Balm.
Beloved by pollinators, this fiery plant has long been cherished in North America. Indigenous peoples used it for healing teas and remedies, and during the American Revolution, it became a symbol of resilience when “Liberty Tea” was brewed from its leaves after the Boston Tea Party.

In folk traditions and witchcraft, Bee Balm has been tied to protection, love, and clarity its bright blossoms often used in charms to attract positive energy and ward off illness. With its wild, untamed beauty, it’s no wonder it’s found a place in both gardens and spellwork for centuries. 🌿🐝

Flowers & crystals have been intertwined in spellcraft since the earliest of days. Rose Quartz, the Heart Stone, was cherished by the ancient Greeks as a gift of Aphrodite. Born from Aphrodite’s own blood and care for Adonis, Rose Quartz was considered a gift from the goddess herself, imbued with her power to inspire love and emotional healing.

Blooms like carnation, chrysanthemum, and globe amaranth were woven into rituals for protection, truth, and immortality. Even dried, these petals are a living grimoire, whispering the old spells of love, remembrance, and enchantment.

Mysterious & striking.
The black columbine has long carried a reputation that blends beauty with shadow. In folklore and magical herbalism, columbines were associated with secrets, hidden desires, and transformation. Their unusual, nodding blossoms were sometimes called “witches’ gloves” in old European herbals, a nod to their curious shape and connection to the unseen.

In color magic, black flowers hold powerful energy: protection, banishing negativity, and honoring the mysteries of the night. When paired with columbine’s historical links to courage and true love, the black columbine becomes a floral charm for those walking the path between shadow and light — protecting the heart while opening it to deep transformation.

🌸 How to work with it:

+Place dried petals on your altar during shadow work or protective rituals.

+Use the image of black columbine in meditations to invite mystery and hidden wisdom.

+Pair with white blooms for balance, or purple for amplified intuition.

The black columbine reminds us that even in the darkest shades, there’s beauty, protection, and power. 🌑🌸

Tonight, we’re under the glow of the Sturgeon Moon, named because late summer once brought an abundance of lake sturgeon to the Great Lakes and waterways of North America. Across different traditions, it’s also known as the Green Corn Moon, Grain Moon, and Wild Rice Moon—each name reflecting the season’s harvest and abundance.

This year’s Sturgeon Moon offers a rare treat: its unique low-angled rising will grace the horizon with two nearly identical moonrises on consecutive nights, a double blessing of lunar light. In folk magic, the Sturgeon Moon is considered a time to harvest inner wisdom and call abundance into your life.

🌸 Moonlit Floral Charm for Abundance
Traditionally, August’s full moon is linked with flowers of late summer—sunflowers, marigolds, and chamomile—all symbols of prosperity, protection, and joy. To create a simple moon-blessing spell:

1. Gather fresh petals from flowers.

2. Hold them in your hands under the moonlight and speak an intention for what you wish to grow.

3. Scatter the petals in your garden or at your doorstep to “seed” your wish into the earth, letting the moon’s energy nourish it.

Happy Full Moon!

🌸✨ Every Flower has a Story ✨🌸

Did you know snapdragons were once whispered to be guardians of secrets and charm? In ancient folklore, these whimsical blooms called "dragon flowers", were believed to ward off deception and even break curses. Hidden in gardens or worn as talismans, snapdragons served as silent sentries, protecting those who dared to believe in magic.

The pink snapdragon, in particular, is steeped in both color and floral mysticism. Pink, the hue of the heart, has long been linked to love, gentleness, and healing, but don't be fooled. Within its soft blush lies fierce emotional magic. Pink snapdragons are thought to soften anger, mend fractured bonds, and invoke honest communication, especially when used in spells of reconciliation or truth.

Witches of old would dry these blossoms to brew teas for courage, or place them under pillows to influence dreams of clarity and passion. Paired with rose quartz or moonstone, their power is amplified beneath the waxing moon.

So next time you see a pink snapdragon, don’t just admire its beauty, listen for its whispers. It might just be guarding a secret meant for you.

🌿 Stinging Nettle 🌿

Often feared for its sting, the humble stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) has been revered for centuries in folklore and herbal medicine. In ancient traditions, it symbolized protection and vitality, used to ward off evil and awaken energy in the body.

Medicinally, nettles are a nutrient-dense tonic, packed with iron, calcium, magnesium, and anti-inflammatory compounds. They’ve long been used to support joint health, relieve allergies, and strengthen the kidneys and blood.

In the garden, nettles are a living soil champion 🌱
Rich in minerals, they feed compost and teas, boost microbial life, and signal healthy, bioavailable soil. A favorite in permaculture and organic systems, nettles nourish both plants and people.

Centaurea montana or Mountain Bluet

Sometimes known as the Perennial Cornflower, the genus Centaurea is named after Chiron, the wise centaur of Greek mythology. He was known for his deep knowledge of medicinal plants and is said to have used Centaurea species to heal wounds.

While generally safe in small quantities (especially in eye treatments), some Centaurea species may cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Mountain bluet is more ornamental today, but still used in herbal teas and natural cosmetics, especially for eye care.
