We had a wonderful time with BC author Tanya Boteju yesterday!
Despite a light change of location due to the heat, we were able to have our event with a stunning ocean view, thanks to The Artisan's Garden .

💌Terrier recommends… "Lake Life" by Tanya Boteju

A wonderful West Coast YA romance (and more), perfect for summer !

The characters really grew on me, and by the end of the book I was already missing some of them greatly.
The story had a nice flow, and kept me interested all along.

Also, I absolutely loved learning more about Indigenous cultures, and the environmentalism part of the story. It didn’t feel too forced or pushy, but instead felt just right.

My favourite character was definitely Jan first and Gabe second!

Sooke Region Food CHI is excited to share that our recently published book, So You Want to Farm in Sooke?, is now available in print at Sooke's wonderful local bookstore, Terrier Books, 6689 Goodmere Rd. in Sooke. Originally created by local farmers and food system leaders in 2011, the book was completely revised and updated in late 2025. This practical, place-based resource is perfect for anyone interested in growing food in the Sooke region, from backyard gardeners to aspiring market farmers.

Inside, you’ll find:

🥦Practical tips from experienced Sooke growers

💌Terrier recommends… "The Garden We Share" by Zoë Tucker & Julianna Swaney

A beautiful and sweet picture book that celebrate the gardens we grow and the memories we share 🌻

Through the seasons we explore what happens from seeds to plants, and back to seeds again.
A child spend time in her local community garden and develop a friendship with an elderly woman, until one day, she is gone... But with gardening, the young girl is able to keep the memories of her loved one alive.

With some sweet and colourful illustrations, this picture book is truly wonderful. I love it when death is taught through such a hopeful and positive perspective.

It's definitely a very warm and positive story that I would recommend to any children (and adults)!
